I guess this could be in Your Questions, Playground or, if all else failed, I could do a search!
Can anyone suggest a good restaurant in Melbourne for Friday night for an infrequent visitor?
Criteria are:
walkable from Crowne Plaza so I'd think CBD or Southbank. Maybe Docklands at a pinch. Going to the burbs the next night.
cuisine style is not important as long as its carnivorous. Seafood at a pinch. Ethnicity doesn't matter.
reasonably priced. I looked at Ezard which we like but don't want to pay in the $40's for mains. The Press Club maybe (which is virtually in the $40's)?
not too loud or super trendy (therefore probably not the sort if place Keith would like.![]()
) Emphasis on the food.
Many thanks.
cheers,
Bill.

And if you prefer to graze at a buffet - Melba at The Langham is a very good buffet.
If you don't mind walking/tramming into the CBD, and don't mind Japanese, I would highly recommend Yu-U for a no-fuss, ambient, nice dinner.
Yu-U
It may be a little tricky to find, but the restaurant itself is very laid back, the food is great and the price is quite reasonable.
Define walkable? I have a lower threshold than most people and so to me that narrows it down a lot if you're starting at the Crowne Plaza (ie the casino side of Southbank).
If you're willing to take a short (not more than 10 mins) cab ride into Footscray, try Delizia Cucina.
V nice contemporary Italian food, great wine list. Reservations highly recommended.
Due to its Footscray location the prices are competitive with mains $25-30ish.
Don't worry, no rabies injections or anything of that sort required for venturing into Footscray - they don't bite. I think.
Totally overrated IMVHO!
(even though I think that QF does have v good food relative to other airlines)
Meat and Wine Co - I like!
A favourite of mine in the city area is Jamie O's Fifteen. Fantastic food, and great unpretentious service. The sommerliers are especially commendable. Reservations required.
I like Ezard's too, but being a poor student I'd only go there on special occasions. If you like fusion cusine but aren't willing to pay as much, there's a place called Verge on the corner of Flinders Lane and Spring St (near Parliament House) that does excellent contemporary European with a Japanese twist. There's also Taxi Dining Room at Fed Sq that does great Japanese-French fusion, and has a noice $90 degustation. Service at Taxi is a hit or miss however. But the ambience is nice and it's not too trendy I don't think.
Reservations required for both.

CP has a Dragon Boat on the lower floor, not bad from what I hear!
