the more status I earn, the more I realise that status is actually quite easy to buy/obtain. It isn't special at all!

Hmm now I recall that prior to August 2004 Senator status on Miles and More used to be top shelf AND easier to earn (higher status miles accrual).

Post August 2004 it's superseded by HON Circle to become mid tier, is harder to earn (enhanced status miles accrual), and above all - is slowly diluted by insidious annual enhancements.

Caveat re CCs - over here in the US of A Plat or "top tier" CCs are nothing special (they're not all like Amex Plat)
