Hello everyone

Hi there, just thought i'd pop in and say hi. I've been a long time reader and thought i'd join and post. A few things were hard to understand first up but i think im getting there trying to understand it all! Very difficult for a newbie let me assure you...

A bit about me, I'm certainly not as frequent as most of you but i averaged every 4 odd weeks last year and mostly fly to Adelaide for work but all around for pleasure.

We went to Rome in November of last year and a 2 week cruise complimented by a bit of travel around Venice, Florence and Rome. It was very good and i enjoyed it all. As has been said by some BA service and planes left a bit to be desired but that was after 32hrs in transit and only on the LHR FCO leg so all in all it wasnt too bad, on the way there we had a 36hr flight due to some of us using points to get there and with a 3 year old in tow i was a bit worried but she only complained for 15 minutes coming down into FCO.

A few questions - What is a DONE4 and what does it stand for?

Where do i find what all the abbreviations mean? Is there a thread somewhere containing them?

How do you guys find all your fights/prices etc.? I am the owner of the business so i always foot the bill and am very jealous of you guys who fly with QF. Believe me, it is a big step up from Virgin for those who complain.

I have joined as i would like some advice from those who travel more than me in relation to packing, finding and managing flights etc...

Hopefully you will see me round about the place for a while!!!

Re: Hello everyone

thegurio,

I think your questions have all been answered elsewhere from your other posts. If not then please ask again.

Re: Hello everyone

I think we've got most of them but I'll have a stab at two of them for you. Because they're easy and 1 is fun!

A DONE4 is a Business Class Oneworld Explorer. (RTW) Basically the the D is business class (L is economy, A is First Class), the ONE is for Oneworld Explorer and 4 is a four continent fare.

Hmm, maybe I'm not the best person to talk to about this one. I notorious for either overpacking or underpacking. Eg. my last trip to the US for two weeks. Went out with 21.8kgs of baggage which included changes of clothes for every day etc etc and Vegemite, just in case. Because of the weather, this was a little excessive and I didn't quite count on bringing a new wardrobe home. In the end I came through ok, only 52kgs of luggage but still far too much to try and lug around- particularly from 45th to Penn Station (34th) with three suitcases.

And then there are the times where I'll only pack a change of shirt and underwear if I'm going to SYD for two days.

And then they're times like now where you only pack four shirts to go to the beach for two weeks and end up hopelessly sunburnt because you're not used to exposing flesh.

At the end of the day pack what you need and feel comfortable with. I always went by the philosophy that more is good but I'm starting to change my thoughts. At least with a trip to the US, you don't normally need to worry about baggage limits.......

thegurio,

There is also an extensive topic here on travelling with carry on only. See this link:

Re: Hello everyone

The only issue with that is that i (almost) always take my clubs with me. This due to the fact that i carry sharps that, obviuosly, cant be carried on board. If it was an overnight which was on the cards until we lost the contract i could go with carry-on but until then its not really an option.
