The online application and PDF on Citibank web site clearly states you must be over 18.
The salesman lost a sale!
In regards to the ambiguity of the age factor within Citibank’s selection criteria – I have had the same experience as other forum members.
The sales people for Citibank at MEL want you to be over 21, however.
I’m thinking that maybe the salespeople ‘up’ the age limit on their own accord to increase the chance of a successful credit card application, which in turn ensures their commission?!

Now that you mention it, I think the salesman for Citibank said something about 21+ to signup in person but only 18+ online. If thats the case, it doesn't really make sense.
Unless as Danhan said the salespeople do that to up their chances of successful applications and therefore more commision?
Yep, I'm about to hop back on the phone and demand a proper reason as to why the application wasn't successful, as I more than satifsied the criteria for the card.
Yeah thats a good idea, get an explanation if you meet all the criteria they should approve you. If still no answer you should get a copy of your credit report from Baycorp Advantage and see if there's anything on there that's causing the decline.
Age isn't my prob- I'm keen to apply, but my annual "official" income is approx $34K and I know the application specifies >$35K. I've got good credit history, have other sources of income eg bank interest etc, so do u think it wise for me to try and apply nonetheless? Am I likely to get rejected based on making $1000 short of the limit?? Has anyone had similar experiences?

From my experiences (which I won't go into), you should be able to get away with it

I dont think that'd be a problem Holly. It does say total income including dividends and other sources of income in the application process, so apply anyway, you have nothing to lose! They may ask for proof of the interest you get in which case you can send them a copy of your bank statement and that should keep them happy!
I applied on-line last week, but yet to hear a response- what's the usual time before you hear back?? I tried using that "status check" thing they have on the Citibank website but it said they couldn't find my application or something...is that a sign that I'll need to call their customer service?
Hi guys saw this offer on flyertalk in nov last year and applied, got my card within 2-3 weeks. Then saw another add online that gave 10,000 ff points with citibank gold card (but this card had an annual fee).. tried my luck to get points added on, but was declined by Manila
I got a call on Monday that they'd verified my employment details and asked me the "how did you apply" question, I said online. Asked me a few verification questions like name, address etc.
I asked if i'd been approved and how long it'll take, they said its with the credit department and i should be sent a letter within 3 days. Still waiting now!
