I was just mentioning superstitions and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this: A BA146e (with the 4 hairdryer jets on the wings) skips the 13th row and instead jumps straight from row 12 to 14.
I have looked on the Boeings and they definitely use a 13th row.

Has anyone noticed this on other models, is it a British thing or is it only this model?

    Re: The 13th row?

There are often jumps in row numbers, but the skipping of row 13 seems to be particularly stupid. If a triskaidekaphobic elects to fly, there are enough other seats to choose from. QF doesn't skip 13, but have seen it on USA carriers and also CX skips it

If genuinely a triskaidekaphobic , then surely whichever was the 13th row would be the issue; how does skipping to 14 help?

QF definitely use row 13. It is the 1st of the exit rows on a 73H for example

    Taking the A380, QF uses rows 1-5, 11-25, 34-39, 50-64, 66-77, 79-88. No issue with a 13 there

Thanks Dave, I learned a new word today! I also know that on a 737, I am a triskaidekaphile!

I also like row 4. Do you have a word for that too?

Tetraphobia for the fear of 4

Easily deduced using 13 as the basis

    Triskaidekaphobia is from greek for 3 ( tris ) , and (kai) , 10 (deka) ... so for 4, replace 3 and 10 with 4 (tetra )

OK, I am thinking of the BAe146s run by National Jet which operated until very recently. There was definitely a blatant omission there.

Yep, I used NC on PER-RVT-PER flights and row 13 was definitely missing.

From a very distant childhood memory I seem to remember either Ansett or Australian I think..... not having row 13 on some aircraft... only because randomly as an annoying 10 year old I asked the question of a FA!!.... Thats a test for some of the old boys on this forum?!!

Also it isn't uncommon to find hotels with no 13th floor 12->14!

It is common in some Asian cultures to skip numbers that are considered unlucky. For example many buildings in Asian countries skip the 13th floor. Cathay Pacific skip row 13 on most (all?) of their aircraft configurations, going from row 12 to 14.
