Question SYD - HKG Business class question QF987

Hi

Sorry the flight in question is QF87 and not QF987 as per the subject line.

After many many years of accumulating QFF points, we finally have enough for our trip to Hong Kong in business class.

I have just a few questions, that hopefully someone who has travelled business class before (sorry don't know if that's classed as 'J' or not)

Travelling on QF87, SYD-HKG Qantas award booking says that the plane is an Airbus A330-300. As this is our 1st time in business class we want to travel in the 'best' luxury that's on offer for this class of travel.

I've read that the A330-300 has skybeds on QF87 which I hope is correct.
Also can anybody share their experiences in the type of business class offered in the A330-300 aircraft and would it be a 'wow factor for us who are only used to the economy class travel, as this will probably be the first and last time we ever travel in business class again.

The dates we want to travel don't have bus class avail on the Boeing 747-400 QF127, so that's why our interest lies in the A330-300,

Also I've been reading past posts and as I'm not used to the 'lingo' not sure what is mean't by a comment I read that there are two classes of planes - 2 class and 3 class and the terms CX100, VX110, CX138 however they may not relate to the type of plane we will be on.
Can anybody enlighten me on these terms, what 'j' class is eg is it business and any experiences with Business class on a Airbus A330-300

Thanks, from a newbie bussiness class traveller. If only I know if the term was 'j' class. !!

Yes 'J' class is business class (there are a number of booking classes used for business class, which can vary by airline, most often the actual booking class is C or D or even U instead of J, but in AFF lingo 'J' means business)

Any business class is better than economy

The Qantas J service is usually very good, and the skybeds are also pretty good as J seats go (some like them more than others).

Unless you have enough points for First then you won't go wrong booking QF Business.

2 class means an economy and (usually) a business class service, 3 class means economy / business / first.

The QF A330 operates a 2 class service (economy + business), and yes the business class has skybeds.

You can view the seat map for this plane here : SeatGuru Seat Map Qantas Airways Airbus A330-300 (333)

Have a great trip!

Many thanks Opusman

Great to know what 2 and 3 classes mean on an aircraft, and of course J class.
I've never wanted to ask the business class / J class question before for fear of showing my ignorance in this class of travel,. Thanks for explaining.

Re: SYD - HKG Business class question QF987

Just went online to book award seats, and the 'j' class seats there were avail a few hours ago on the day I want to travel are now gone.

Another post mentioned flying with Cathay Pacific, so I'll ring QFF tommorrow and enquire into availability of J class award seats flying CX.

That is a bit of bad luck. It is very frustrating when trying to book award flights to see award availability change so often in a short period of time.

If you do book CX flights just make sure you check the aircraft configuration first. I think the CX flights to/from SYD are OK but some CX flights to Australia have the regional business class configuration.

This was the case from BNE though I don't know either way now.
