I just read about the Southwest 'Person of Size' Policy. The policy is about requiring large people to purchase two seats.

After flying an International flight with a "large" person next to me, I definately understand and congratulate SouthWest for doing something about the problem. If I were an American (or flying in America), I would favour Southwest over other airlines flying the same route.

Whilst this is a policy for some airlines, and believe me, I know what it is like to fly with a large person next to you, airlines need to provide special rates for those that cannot help but being large, and require two seats.

Perhaps they need to have some seating allocated, perhaps at the rear, where you commonly have two seats instead of three with better shoulder width and seat pitch. I am happy with a surcharge for these seats.

That way there is not the prestige of a super economy, or the cost increase.

What I am sick of is budget airlines squeezing in ordinary people into cramped configurations.

Most, if not all, Aussie companies use a 30inch pitch which to me is too cramped. It might be fine for an hour flight, but long flights are terrible with this configuration.

If you read the Southwest (information) Q&A page you'll find that they do infact provide special rates and also refund the extra seat cost if the a/c is not full. On initial viewing this looks to be an extremely fair fare to me.

What!!!!!! It's really simple, less input, more output.

Fat people are FAT because they did it to themselves! I know, I used to be fat, and i used to put a lot more in than went out.

I know full well what it's like to sit tilted to one side with a large person in the next seat.

I'm getting a little fed up with obese people crying that they can't help it.
I know medically from the patients I see at work that it's only a tiny percentage of overweight people that actually have a problem beyond their control.
Yet they all claim their problem is glandular etc.

The choice is to either lose weight and pay for one seat, or retain the weight, die prematurely and pay for the space you use.
