Does anyone know what happened to delay all departures at Tullamarine last evening for about 30 minutes from about 7pm? The captain of our QF captain simply said it was a "security incident" but there appears to be no mention of it in the media today.

The Channel 10 5.00pm news just reported that a Qantas flight from Adelaide was involved in a security scare at Tulla. Closed one of the main runways. Apparently there was a "mis-communication" ??? between the pilot and ATC. The impression I got was that it happened today, but it probably was yesterday and caused the interuption that you observed. They said "authorities" did enter the aircraft. No other details.
QF692 last night. The pilot inadvertently(!?) used the code-word for a hi-jack when communicating with ATC. Federal Police boarded the aircraft which was held next to the runway for 45 minutes.

It would not be hard to do that, its a common word, then again you usually get 10% of the real story in the media!
Oh... that would be like my mate many years ago who put his hand on a wall in a computer room and hit the big red power down everything button (before they put a cover over it).... you would just think, what have i dont now !
I have no idea what the word is but there is also a squark code for hijack
Code 7500. More than likely the FO got lazy and didn't switch the transponder to standby before putting in a new code and by fluke switched through 7500

It was unlikely to be a transponder code as there is no need for a crew to change it during normal ops, more than likely the verbal code, and its not in anyones interest to reveal what that is! RPT operations rely on mode S and the only time the transponder would be touched is when the flight number is entered, and this occurs at the point of departure prior to pushback, not in the air! It is very unlikely for it to have been touched inflight.
