As a dual member of QFF (Platinum) and ANZ )GE) the NZ Airpoints scheme is far better in my view. It is harder to earn off a credit card but easir=er to redeem.

Whilst not disagreeing with you (yet) Would you like to elaborate a little?

I, and many others here, maywell agree with you though it depends upon your flying and travel pattens. It's also got to do with where you live and airline availability. What works for one may or may not work for another.

a few background facts.. I live in NZ now from Melbourne, and Head Office is there, so I fly J trans tasman quite a bit (monthly). I alos have no corporate travel policy to deal with..!!

I need to fly a bit in NZ too, and airNZ has better frequency and more destinations.

Thus year I am going to Korea and China (March) amd Europe in May, all J. The only direct AKL Seoul flight is Korean AL, no good for me so I'll go with Asiana, which code shares both QF and AirNZ!. A trip thru Oz, but worth it for the points.

In a nutshell, I have booked european flights with Q on points, and am doing more later with AirNZ. Q is really hard, with better availability on air NZ, no restrictions at all, depends on the fare and pay in Airpoints dollars accordingly. QF are helpful as a Platinum, but availability of J Award seats is hard.

Airpoints was much better in the 90s.

I remember getting an award business flight BNE-AKL-NAN, I can't remember the exact rate but it was 125-150% of the Y points, instead of 200% like QF.

But now there's no way to earn points on AU domestic flights, as an Australian, I don't see the point. I haven't flew star alliance since ansett collapsed, and don't plan to. Oneworld have me now!

30K points would get you a solely Oz round trip up to 11,000 km in WHY.

25% more points (37½K) would do the trick in J (had to book early though, there weren't many J award seats on those 146's).

I joined QFF in 2003 and I remember researching SYD-BNE-PER-ADL-MEL-SYD with a stopover of <24 hours in each city. It only required 30,000 FF points with a night in each of the stopover cities and the taxes were minimal then as fuel surcharges not introduced until mid 2004.

I did not get around to booking it and the changes in May 2005 with one way awards put an end to that plan....
