I have a little problem, I dont know how to fix, Im hoping someone can help me!

Yesterday accidently I put on a companion on my qantas staff travel, my daughters fiance, little did I know they can get discounts, I just wanted them to travel together (He already has his full price ticket)

I wanted to book tickets for me and my husband today on qantas staff travel, and they have told me once I put on a companion on the list my spouse goes off as my beneficarie for 6 months.

Is there any way I can change this as I did it by accident, as the comanion I have put on will not be using my staff travel ticket, I would like to take him off now and put my husband back on the list if possible.

Could someone plese help me if you had the same problem or you know something about this.

Funnily enough thats not the first time I've seen this happen. You can't have your husband/wife plus a companion at the same time, however it seems a few of the Qantas staff travel people aren't aware of this so will try to do it anyway - only for it to be turned down.

Staff travel staff range from slightly helpful to downright rude, so aim for a slightly helpful one and see if they can override it - technically speaking though, no, you can't do it for six months.

thanks for that, I have to see what happens and if they can fix my problem.

I truly didn't know my spouse will come of the list, I thought comanion is put on and they buy a full price ticket but they can go with you at the same time, I didnt even know till now comanion can get benefits.

I just want to fix this, as this companion is not even using the bnefits, my spouse would.

Surely, they could fix that as it was a genuine mistake by me. By one click and nw it says 6 months comanion stays on there.

    There must be a way.

There's always a way to fix everything, the key is to ensure you're speaking with the person who had the power to make that decision, instead of speaking with the gatekeepers who have no power to hit the button and fix it.

Yes exactly I'm sure there is a way and it is not that difficult, they just make it sound so difficult

That's how you know you're speaking to the wrong person, someone in every organisation for every situation has the power to veto and say Yes, its just most of the time we're stuck talking to people who only have the power to follow the letter of the law and say No.

If you have a staff travel booking (eg your daughter) and a commercial fare booking (eg your son-in-law to be) there is no way that to guarantee they will get seats together.

A passenger on a staff travel booking cannot be linked or cross referenced with a passenger on a commercial fare so you are really at the mercy of the airport staff on the day as to whether or not you will be sitting next to each other. That's assuming too that your daughter even gets a seat onboard the flights as the travel is space available (standby).

I would ask to speak to the manager of staff travel and explain that you were not trying to get your son-in-law on your benefits at the expense of your husband. Maybe if you give staff travel his booking number that will prove that he'd already purchased a commercial ticket for the journey so would give your story credibility.

The only times I believe they will change beneficiaries within the six month period is if the person dies or separates from the QF staff member.

It's not uncommon in the present climate with airfares at an all time low for QF staff to purchase normal commerical tickets if you don't want the chance of being bumped off a flight. Sometimes it's just not worth the grief particularly if it's an important event like a honeymoon.

Let us know how you go anyway.

    Cheers

    Oz
