Personally, I think Qantas Club membership, including joining fees, has been way too low in the last few years. Oh, sorry, if that mean less people in the lounges then all the better....
I suspect that Qantas were quite focussed on tieing up the corporate market before Virgin Blue had the competitive products. Offering corporate discounts on the club were part of their marketing. I think they have less need to offer the discounts now.

Re: Qantas New Domestic Business Lounges
I was in the QF Club in MEL recently as was my wife in its SYD lounge. Neither of us were impressed with either offering. I used to visit a friend who commutes from HBT to the mainland frequently at the QF Club in the 90s and was always impressed. I wish I could say the same today.
I was in Camberra Lounge around midday today [sunday], and I wish it had a J lounge.
Why.
Well, I coUnted in the first part of the lounge the following 2A 2C; 2A 3C; 2A 1C; 2A; 2A 4C; 3A; 2A 2C; 2A 2C; 1A; 2A 3C; 2A 2C; 2A 1C.
Thankfully went around the corner to near bar and about 6 adults here but seating is very limited for 4A. Lucky bar guy was able to change TV there to Olympics.
Obviously Children are exempt as guests are they !!

Technically a guest is a guest is a guest, but in my experience Qantas usually let a QC member in with spouse and kids. My questions for you are :-
Were any of the children misbehaving?
How many of the family groups consisted of just one member?
Do you think they ban kids in the J lounges? Do you think they should?
What other types of people would you prefer not to see in your lounge?

1. Majority were "heemed" in by the seating of 2 seats facing 2 seats, however there were a couple of toddlers who felt the walkways were there playground !!
2. Good question, hard to say but If I was betting man - not many.
3. Actually no I don't think kids should be banned from J lounges, BUT they should strictly control the guest numbers.. 2a 2C on one member, should be sorry QC is that way.
4. If a person is qualified as member then they are in. No preference at all.
What other types of people would you prefer not to see in your lounge?

Following up on your attack on JohnK in your "white australia policy" post can we out you as someone who assumes that all people who aren't you are white racist bigots who hate everyone.
I am sick of your moral superiority and constant attacks on people with a thinly veiled attitude of moral superiority.

I travel a lot and I really have no problems with those allowed to access the lounge to bring in their immediate family when traveling. Young children are just that, young and my general experience is that they have never caused me troubles. Some are a little precious of the lounges!

The White Australia Policy was merely the formalisation of a common phenomena - the last people to get in always want to keep everyone else out. There is probably another more generic name for it .... feel free to educate me.
And if the worst criticism you can make of me is that I am morally superior ... then you are not trying very hard!
And speaking of moral superiority - who do you want to exclude from your lounge? I would start a poll on the subject but I could never possibly imagine all the categories that people might like to include. My list is simple .... I would like to exclude anyone who wants to exclude other people.
Now sod off while I disappear up my own logical loop.
I was in a party of 3 domestic paid business class - ie not points business nor upgrade business - the real thing. We tried to get 2 guests in and the man on the door said no way. It was Sat and was quiet - I went in myself to have a look. We stayed in the Q Club lounge which was fine.
However, I was disappointed with the way our party was treated. Now I know that someone on here will fire back and say that QF was not obliged to let quests in and they are the rules etc etc but really Sat morning - quiet - etc - it wouldn't have hurt anyone.
By the way, I have noticed a downgrade in Melbourne of Qantas Club facilities, I spoke to the lady doing the catering and she said they have reduced food quality/variety in Qantas Club so as to have a point of differentiation with the J lounge.
