I see that my old forward aisle preference was converted to forward and then aisle.
I just checked my profile, and I see that I have a first preference of Forward, and a second preference of Aisle. I just wonder if I am actually better off switching them around (it is the aisle I am after rather than Forward). But then I might head toward the back of the plane....hmm...

I think I am in the same situation as you. I do not quite understand the change of the terminology but it would appear an emphasis on 'Aisle' would be more important than 'Forward'. This should ensure an aisle seat relatively forward in the cabin....

Not according to the Platinum member that was seated across the aisle from me yesterday! And most of my recent flights have pre-allocated me seats quite forward in the cabin, and certainly more forward than a Gold member I was travelling with. So I don't think I can draw the conclusion that QF members (Plat or otherwise) are treated "better" than non-QF OneWorld members. My experiences seemed to be better than the QF Plat across the aisle, who was complaining about always being allocated the rear half of the cabin.
Most of my recent flights have been 737s and I have only once been allocated a seat behind the exit row - all others have been in front of the exit row which to me meets the goal of "forward".
Note that as a non-QF FF passenger, I only have the choice of selecting Aisle or Window. There is no choice for forward or rear.

But you are also a QF Gold although I am not certain this would show up in the booking if you have only provided your AA number.
I know some people will be inconvenienced with the recent changes but we have not heard any stories from QF Platinums, apart from your friend across the aisle, where they have been inconvenienced with the new seating allocations....

I hope not! I was replying to NM who is QF Lifetime Gold and AA Executive Platinum. But I am assuming he uses the AA number for most flights which could indicate the reason for the seats he is being allocated.
On several flights now (BNE-TSV, BNE-MEL) as a WP, OLCI at T-24 (or maybe T-23.59) Seq No. 1 on all occaisions, but dont have access to 4A, 4C, 4D or 4F (734's and 738's). Always cheap edeal. One flight the Qld police comm (CL?) was sitting in 4A, but 4C and 4D were empty at take off.
On the flip side, had same day BNE-SYD-BNE on edeals and was pre allocated 4F on both legs at T-24 OLCI.
