That's just weird, lets add it the anecdotal lists. Perhaps a WP firstly coveted 6B - displacing your wife, then upgraded or moved to another flight. Perhaps the 7C was a sytem's attempt to keep you in contact. All guess work here ...

On the way up there was no -one in the B seats, as I booked online, so it was easy for me to change.
Coming back Checkin made the change so I don't know who was next to me

Re: Qantas New Check In Seating Allocation

I'm finding the new system a bit odd. My preference is fwd then aisle.

For my last 6 flights (all domestic J on A330 or 767) I logged in at T - 24 to find I was allocated 3E. Each time, there were free seats in either 1E, 1F or 1J. Each time I was able to simply swap to the row 1 seat.

Not sure why it doesn't simply allocate me to row 1 by default. Last night, the same happened again, and 1A and J were empty on the 767 ???

thoughts ?

Qantas often do not preallocate forward rows of J or Y when loadings permit.

This is especially noticeable ex CBR on 737's.

Re: Qantas New Check In Seating Allocation

BNE-TSV return 25th/26th.
QF Bronze, prefernce Fwd, Aisle.

737-400
Up OLCI put in 18C, changed to 16C (no ailse seats further fwd). Couldnt print so loaded a few hrs later and 16B now full, so moved to 16D.
@BNE went to service desk for exit row - only B avail, so left me in 16D as no traveller 16E. Great. Aircraft about 80% full.

737-800
21C checked in at counter, no exit rows avail. COuld see why - plane 95% full (2 Es and one B only seats empty in last 5 rows - pity none next to me!)

So much for forward!

Re: Qantas New Check In Seating Allocation

Well this whole trhead has me highly confused.

I see that my old forward aisle preference was converted to forward and then aisle.

However, on my last ADL-OLP the second perference aisle didnt seem to kick in at all.

OCLI going to OLP gave me a window in about row 8. This is a 2-2 seat config fokker 50 (sorry I didn't pay attention to the exact details) But all the aisle seats were open from about row 3 rearwards and all seats rear of my row were open. It gave me the most forward window.

On the return, counter check-in (OLP is small) and I got row 2 window. With only 1 person in row 1. So that was forward window (no window in 1) but not forward and then aisle.

I guess I'm only complaining because row 2 on that aircraft is the worst - it's directly in line with the prop. and all I can think of is a blade detaching and slicing straight into row 2.

My earlier reply to this post has been removed.

I have been booking the cheapest red e-deals and so far apart from one hiccup, 8C, I have had row 4 allocated most times on the 738.

I don't know the mix of Platinums on our flights and the amount of data is not significant to determine a trend but based on what you and NM have posted it would appear that QF Platinum are treated much better than non-QF Oneworld Emerald.
