re: Qantas launches iPhone site [merged]

Sadly an iPhone is not an option for me. I have a company issued (and fully funded) Curve and if I wanted to supply my own iPhone using exchange to get mail I would have to fully fund (calls and data and overseas charges) the iPhone as it is against company policy to claim calls...

If you have Safari on your desktop, either Mac or Windows there's an option in the Preferences -> Advanced to Enable the Debug Menu. This provides a lot of useful functionality for developers, but includes an option, User Agent, which allows you to ask Safari to impersonate a different browser when it connects to each web server.

On of the options in User Agent is Mobile Safari 1.1.3 - iPhone. If you select this and navigate to the qantas.com/mobile, or indeed any site, you'll see how it will look on an iPhone / Touch.

Some screenshots from the iPhone are attached.

Cheers,
Steve.

The iphone is great, but the ipod touch with another phone (like you have) is still a pretty good second option anyway.

Yeah the curve/touch combo does work well (obviously doesnt look or feel as "cool").

Nice little website - some great potential there if they don't over complicate it.

Crackberry's for 50 year olds?

Well, I nearly qualify then

But seriously, if you need something to integrate tightly with exchange nothing beats a BB. I also can't imagine typing on a touch screen? If I just had a phone for fun maybe I'd get an Iphone but I own and run 3 companies and its a serious work tool for me.

One advantage of the iPhone is that you don't need a blackberry server thus can reduce your costs.

I agree the screen could be not as useful as the BB for typing - but you do get used to typing on there - I use it for msn a fair amount. Lots of predictive text that you can get used to...

I was <kinda> joking

The typing isn't as bad as you would imagine actually, just a different style - go check it out at an Apple store. People do use them for 'serious work' as well you know.... I plan too

Actually you can install BES at a very affordable price. If you only have a few users (like us) you can get the small business version. Actually its exactly the same thing just limited in the number of licenses. I think it comes with 5. We got it on some promo where we only paid for one ($99 if I remember rightly) and got one free. We did have some issues installing it and the customer service at RIM was fantastic, they sorted us out and gave us another license for free for our troubles. The manager at RIM now contacts me from time to time to check up on us and recently arranged my new BB Bold for me, for free

We are hardly a big corporate site either with only a few users and the service I have had from them blows me away.

Cheers
