Partner Gold...no partner.. where's the incentive

Will make partner gold very shortly, but what's the incentive in that if you don't have a partner.
The amount of travel required to reach it (unless you do long haul first class) would mean that if you did have a partner at the beginning of the exercise they probably would have left by the time you attained it.
Do you think Qantas factored that into their thinking when they offered partner gold, they also seem to have a very narrow definition of partner, you are required to live at the same address.
I think they could use that rule to just about eliminate anyone who reached partner gold, as they would rarely be living at the same address.
It's a shame you don't have the option of nominating someone else if don't have a partner. Singles suffer again, don't get me started single supplements etc.........

I am in exactly the same boat.

No "partner" yet Partner Gold. Hardly seems fair!

Now I have other friends who I could give the Gold away to and who would be able to use it. However I can't really do it....

How does QF define partner? Wife/Husband? Friend? Business Partner? Life Partner? Bed Partner? FF Partner?

Don't just let the benefit fade away and accept that you can't use it.
You've paid QF a packet load of cash over the last year and you damn well better get something (700SC worth) back from it.

Demand an alternative.

"Partner means the spouse or domestic partner, who lives at the same address as the primary member."

That's the w*(&^ Qantas definition of partner. Very broad, but also very restricting in the same sentance.

Maybe I feel discriminated against. Hang on, yes I do ! Off I'll go to the Anti-Discrimination board for a remedy in my favour.

Then again, I'm sure I can find someone to share my PO Box with

My elected QC partner does not live at the same address that I have in my profile.

Hmmm I read an article about singles being discriminated against in the workplace just last week.... even though they make up something like 40% of the population.

Ask them to convert those 700 extra SC into cases of wine..

why not just tell qantas anyone is your partner. sure they may say that they must live at the same address - but they will never know this. with the amount of gay couples out there, it should not be embarassing to register your "partner" as a guy.

The postal address must be the same, which means the pack and other mail will be sent to your address.

The first time I reached Partner Gold I had not nominated a partner and since Mrs NM did not fly that year it ended up lapsing. This time I made sure to have her nominated and she made of the benefits for one trip only. So I think QF believe its a fairly low cost benefit to be providing to its super-elites.

If you don't have a suitable "partner" to receive the benefits, then the only incentive for earning SCs beyond 1200/1400 in a year is the attainment of Lifetime Silver (7,000 SCs) and Lifetime Gold (14,000 SCs).

Thinking further on this topic, perhaps a better oncentive would be a choice of Partner Gold or some number of confirmable Upgrades similar to some US airline's System Wide Upgrades provided for reaching their program's equiv of OneWorld Emerald.
