Would be very interested to learn of the opinion of fellow travellers on this question.
Is there a place for a PR/sales bazaar in QFPs???
The various QFP's, notably, at the majors (BNE, SYD, MEL, etc) are increasingly becoming overrun with promotional stands - have a schick razor, sign up for yet another AMEX card, check out the latest in mobile phones, buy a shirt.....it's like a conference exhibition sales bazaar!
Now personally, my idea of a QFP is somewhere where you can get a drink (or two) if so inclined, catch up on some work or email in a quiet spot, relax and wait for your flight - I don't want to walk the gauntlet of promo folk vying for my attention and thrusting samples in my travel weary mitts.
I can only assume that the reason this is happening is so good old moneybags QF can make even more money at our expense - I regard these stands as intrusions - they cheapen the QFP, create a materialistic insipid mist, which can be left outside and no doubt the AMEX's and shirt sellers are paying big cash for the right to thrust their wares in our faces.
Whatever happened to a little sense of exclusivity, style, ambience?
No, Bigpond, I'm not interested in your tombstone posters when I try to get in and out of the BNE lounge!
And QF, is this really what you want your brand to stand for - cheap, nasty, tacky, intrusive...it's on a par with the new overhead locker advertisement posters starting to appear in Jetstar aircraft. YUCK!!!

If it means Qantas continue to operate the lounges with free membership for Gold and Plat members and free bar and nibbles, then I am more than happy to also accept the odd razor, ignore the odd credit card salesman, and bypass the off advertising stand as I carry my beer from the bar to the FT corner.
As long as they don't let in religious preachers, or worse, those in-your-face direct debit charity sign-up fanatics who seem to occupy every street corner... I'm content.

To be honsest, while I had noticed the various marketing campaigns I had not really thought about it as a problem, so I guess so far it doesn't bother me. Maybe if things got completley out of hand then I would start bothering.
I had a nice chat with the vodaphone guys in the sydney QP last year about their rediculously priced "anywhere internet" ... I ended up spamming them into one of my businesses services and making a few bucks.
I tend to agree with Platy. It is starting to get intrusive. I do not mind a few static displays of some products but I do not want someone trying to sell me something.
Next time I might do a Jerry Seinfeld - ask for their home phone number so that I can call them later at my convenience.
