Jetstar upgrade

Has any members paid for a upgrade to starclass at check in on SYD-HNL or HNL to SYD at all? I have done it from KIX to BNE but unsure if it can be done from SYD to HNL. I am a QC member would be any good? Also can QC members flying on JQ use the QC in HNL?

Re: Jetstar upgrade

I didn't pay for an upgrade to StarClass on the HNL-SYD flight but when I was checking-in there was a staff member walking up and down the Y line asking everyone/yelling out if they were interested in upgrading for $300 (she didn't state a currency so I would guess it was USD).

Don't know anything about the SYD-HNL leg of the flight.

Yes, QC members can use the QC in HNL. I found the staff there to be excellent.

Enjoy your trip!

Re: Jetstar upgrade

I upgraded SYD-HNL in July. I went to the JQ service desk in advance of the 3 hour opening and immediately they opened asked for the upgrade - paid the cash ($300 in those days) and then joined the Starclass queue to check in.

My travelling companion did the same on the HNL-SYD leg.

Re: Jetstar upgrade

On Departure Upgrade either way is AU$400+

At Syd you can go to the left end counter and ask there, at HNL they usually have a CSR out spruiking upgrades.

Did it in August both ways with no problems.

Re: Jetstar upgrade

If you pay for the upgrade at check in for say $300 do you get QFF points?

Re: Jetstar upgrade

Hi Depends on what you were originally booked as.

Points are awarded on the basis of your original fare type. Therefore if you had originally purchased a jetsaver fare(extra cheap ticket) and then upgraded to starclass at check-in, you wouldn't be entitled to points.

When you think about it, even though you paid for that upgrade to business class, you still haven't paid the actual full cost of a business class ticket so its understandable that you wont earn points.

That is not totally correct.

Up until recently, if you paid for an ODU you did get the QFF points and SC's for J class.

Apparently some changes have been made to the booking system to prevent this, however it appears that some people still get points and SC's when upgrading from a ultra cheap Jetsaver fare (a friend recently flew back from Japan and paid for an upgrade, points/sc's were in his account 4 days later - this was 2 weeks ago)

if it was a case whereby you purchased a Jetsaver fare, upgraded at check in to starclass and then received points according to j class, it would've been done in error.

As some one who works for ff, the general rule is that technically check in staff for jq are required to advise that if you pay to upgrade at check in, you'll only be awarded points as per your original booking class. This is also suppose to be imprinted on the payment slip as well. eg. You pay for a jetsaver fare and upgrade, you'll be awarded points as per original booking class. Which means you'll receive nothing. If you originally book in a Jetflex fare such as Y class and you pay to upgrade at check in, you earn economy base points.

I have seen some cases whereby 2 pax travel together and both upgrade but one person automatically receives j class points compared to the other. This is usually the case when jq don't upgrade the booking system correctly as a normal seg upgrade eg y*J.. However, if done properly, no-one should be receiving pts unless they originally purchased an eligible fare type

Useful post abmj08, although I would note that the 'upgrade fee' is generally the difference between the jetflex and starclass fares, so those jetflex flyers who upgrade are probably paying the same as those who booked starclass originally.
obviously the jetsaver flyers get a good deal.

Yes, indeed, so looks rather mean and tricky on Deathstar's part, IMHO, not to award points and SCs.

Problem is that some pax get them awarded and some don't (even if they aren't technicaly supposed to). Such inconsistency tells me that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at Deathstar.

Heaven help the Qf group when the midget migrates offices...
