    Hawaiian air and Virgin blue

I'm looking at purchasing a flight Mel-Hnl with Virgin and Hawaiian airlines. Apparently Hawaiian Airlines and Virgin Blue have an interline agreement basically meaning travel agents can issue a single ticket for travel on both airlines, from anywhere in the Virgin Blue network to anywhere in the Hawaiian Airlines network. Also Hawaii-bound passengers around Australia are able to check their luggage all the way to Honolulu when they check in for their Virgin Blue connecting flight.

So I'm just wondering with my luggage allocation- does Virgin honor the international allowance of 2 x 32Kg-(they should with it being on one ticket) or will I be slugged with a massive excess luggage bill on my return Syd-Mel?
Expedia have not yet been able to answer this for me. Has anyone had this connection before?

Yes, is the short answer. as an interline partner virgin blue does honour Hawaiian airlines baggage allowance. if you exceed the allowance then you are charged the Virgin rate for your domestic flight and the Hawaiian rate for your international flight.
Hawaiian supposed to be excellent to travel on have had lots of industry friends rave about their trip on HA.

Thanks...I'll be booking today then. I have travelled with Hawaiian air many times but have had the Mel/Syd connection with Qantas- and the luggage quota has never been an issue. having the luggage go straight through from Mel is a bonus so I really wanted to travel with the Virgin connection-just was worried about the luggage charge. Yes. You will get 23kg of luggage allowance on Virgin Blue (or higher if flying HWhatever luggage allowance you have on HA you will have on your connector flights.

Make sure you are on a through ticket and not 2 seperate pnr's get this.

HA has a 2x 32kg but 2x 23kg is all I'll probably have. HA provide an excellent service so prefer to fly with them than Qantas. Will recheck with expedia than it will all be on one ticket. thankyou!

Anstar's right. I enquired about a stop over in Hnl to/from Sacramento. Hawaiian said my ski bags (8kg) would attract, in $US, the same type of extortionist fees that United charge. So I'm on Vaust from Mel-LAX. The family's beachlovers can visit St Kilda beach anytime.

Only flown HA once (HNL-LAX). Were OK but quite ordinary.

Surely QF should be better (but maybe not on the old 767's).

OK- well I have booked- was told to do it through a travel agent- not online myself as I would not qualify for the interline luggage allowance as it would not be linked. So booked through expedia and my Virgin blue luggage allowance is down as 1 piece -20 kg.....however my fare basis states HHNARR- I'm presuming that indicates I have flown hawaiian airlines??? Am i on the right track???? Below is what is on the etick details....

    Class Economy
    Seat Number Check-in Required
    Baggage Allowance 20K
    Booking Status Confirmed
    Fare Basis HHNARR
