Expeirences with QF Online check-in?
Hi all, long time listener, first time caller.
Has anyone else used the QF online check-in service since launch, and what was your user expeirence like?
I must say that the online check-in process was a breeze to use and on par with Virgin's similar service. Sadly, most people were using QuickCheck this evening which caused a horrendus 20min wait in the bag drop queue at PER.
After a long wait to drop the bags, the boarding call was made and this is where the electronic boarding pass came dreadfully unstuck. It seems that the newly installed barcode scanners to utilise these tickets at the boarding gates aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Despite trying several different times with the multiple barcodes printed on the ticket, the gate agent was unable to use it to board me. She actually ended up with a fellow gate agent assisting her to manually board me onto the flight via the gate computer. This was a little embarrassing considering it was a redeye, and everyone was wanting to get on board to get out of there.
I honestly suspect that the issues may have come down to the type of printer used for my electronic boarding pass. I use a high-end thermal wax based printer at work (which is where I spat it out on) and that may have caused some reflection and clarity loss issues on the barcode despite all my printing being done at 2400dpi and being sharp as all hell.
Be very interested to hear about everyone else's expeirences with the online check-in and electronic boarding passes.
