Exit row safety procedures on QF?

In the last few weeks I've noticed a change (on more than one flight) regarding exit row safety procedures on QF.

Specifically, am I imagining it, or did they used always make sure hand luggage was stored in OH locker and not under seat in front for pax sitting in exit row on a 737? (or am I getting confused with bulkhead type exit rows like on a 747?).

Secondly the one-on-one spiel now just seeks acknowledgement of pax willingness to assist, where as in more recent times they have specifically mentioned not to open in case of fire, smoke or obstruction. Or again am I just imagining that this used to happen?

I think that you are confusing the types of exits.

Re: Exit row safety procedures on QF?

I seem to recall having had to stow hand luggage in the overhead locker on 737s (I haven't sat in the exit row for a while, because I prefer 4C/4D nowadays). If they aren't asking people to do that, they should, because bags do come out of under the seat and cause tripping hazard by the emergency exit.

I remember they used to brief passengers not to only open the door after checking for hazards like fire etc.

Don't they do that anymore?

Flew in exit rows each way trans tasman two weeks ago. Both times received a pleasant if terse speech/question in the form of: "You are in an exit row ... are you prepared to assist in an emergency?" & "Do not open exit if flames/smoke etc can be seen".

Re: Exit row safety procedures on QF?

i have had everything you describe in exit rows. nothing on floor, under seat or even seat pocket! i have been asked to stow my hard cover book once. so now i just put everything in.

i have also had both kinds of requests - am i willing to assist. i have also had them tell me when not to open the door as you mention.

a couple of times they have made a quiz out of it and tested my knowledge to check as see if i have read the card!
