Less than 1000 points to go before I hit gold for life. Given that the Qantas sale is virtually a done deal, this may not be worth very much at all, but it is a bit of a milestone for me. I'll be there by July.
I realise that 'for life' actually means 'for as long as we bloody well feel like', so am thinking beyond this point. Is it worth investigating other oneworld programmes? I don't fly AA more than I have to (once every 2 years), don't regularly fly BA now, but may be flying them 10 + sectors annually in 2008, and could fly CX 2 to 4 long haul sectors per year. Regardless of the potential changes as outlined above, over the next year I will be flying 100 domestic QF sectors.
Looking for advice and wisdom...

Yes, I was talking SCs. I've got to earn 998 more, and currently earn 80 per month, however, have a J Circle Pacific fare coming up in May, and a J RTW in July. As I said, I'm not convinced Qantas' new owners will keep status quo once they take over...
Regardless of what happens to the program, that's a pretty nice milestone to reach.
If I keep going at my current rate, I'll be there in...about 12-14 years! Any bets on whether there'll still be a LTG in 16 years?
Cheers,
- Febs.
There might be, but may require more than 14,000 SCs or whatever equivalent measure is used by then. Then again, QF may abolish lifetime status (for newly qualifying members) like SQ has just done.

I know. Post was intended as tongue-in-cheek.
Whether they keep it or not, who knows...but I'd say it's a safe bet that in 12-14 years, the requirements will have changed. Or there'll no longer be "status credits". Or there'll no longer be a Qantas as we know it. Or we'll all be flying personal supersonic jet aircraft which do SYD-LHR in 8 hours non-stop....take your pick.
Cheers,
- Febs.

I purchased lifetime QC membership a few years ago, and ever since I have retained Platinum status. I only got about a year of benefit from my paid QC membership.
I'll reach lifetime gold in not too long, so I wonder if they'll refund part of my lifetime membership fee? I think not!

I doubt that they will; but if you die and reincarnate I assume that you'll be given a soft landing to lifetime silver and your lifetime QF membership will continue
