I am in SYD T3 now and notice that there are a few MEL flights cancelled. They are offering people without checked baggage an opportunity to board QF459 but that is now scheduled to leave 25 minutes later as well.

Is this due to the strong winds experienced in Sydney today or issues in Melbourne?

Don't know JohnK. It's VERY windy down south also. We had gusts to 45 knots with forecast to 60 Knots.

Its windy and the wind is from the direction which causes 1 runway operations for departure. I was stuck in BNE on Sat at the QFclub for 2 hours because of delays caused by the same type of thing

At 2.00pm this afternoon no availability even in Full Y / J until the 7.00pm SYD-MEL

I am not surprised. When I left the airport a short time ago the 6:00pm SYD-MEL was due to leave at 6:45pm and the 7:00pm SYD-MEL was due to leave at 7:15pm. What actually happens is anyones guess.

Apparently most delays, and cancellations, are because of late incoming aircraft due to strong winds in SYD causing limited runway availability.

I was at Syd T3 this pm...just missed you JohnK! I was hoping to catch QF 759 at 225pm to Adel but they told me that it was oversold by 6 in economy, and they only had seats available in Business - I cheekily asked for an ODU but was told they can't do that! I was put on QF 761 at 325pm which left 45 minutes late....on board, they explained the delay was due to the very strong winds in Syd, and that they could only use one runway for landings / takeoffs at Syd....

On a postive note, my BP got rejected at the gate, and I was moved from seat 11D to 1D - a first for me! PS QF 759 was delayed nearly an hour as well!!

On QF452 back from MEL this afternoon, we got the same story about strong winds, one runway operations. We were about 25 mins late leaving MEL, but the 49 min flight time allowed us to be only 10 mins late.
