Ben Sandilands in Plane Flying tells the interesting tale of some QF passengers in Perth recently and that it probably seemed like a good idea at the time, printing out meal vouchers for delayed passengers on a boarding pass format, but…..

Interesting trip report. I feel sorry for the PAX involved, but I too have come across some 'untrained' QF staff who couldn't care less. Which is why I am always wanting to make mention or nominate for an award, those QF staff who really make a difference and are doing more than their job.

QF should be ashamed to read that, if the story does indeed have all its facts!

My reading of the article suggests that the events took place in Melbourne, rather than in Perth. Can't see why the first paragraph says it was in Perth?

Yeah, that confused me too - If you're in Perth and walking past the International to get from Qantas to Virgin, you're going the wrong way! (And you'd also better be a marathon walker)

I put it down an underpaid unmotivated editor that stuck the intro at the top.

I also wondered about that, and then I noticed that the first paragraph also says
    Ben Sandilands in Plane Flying
which as far as I am aware is meant to be "Plane Talking"which is Ben Sandilands blog on
Crikey.Com.au,sort of makes me wonder about the e-traveblackboard's claim to be "The industry's most reliable source ".
One wonders what other stories on the site have such inaccuracies.
Small points,I know, but it does make me wonder about the factual content of the article-but it's still a good read.

We were travelling from Melbourne to Perth on Thursday evening, and our flight was delayed for two hours. Qantas announced each passenger would get $20 food vouchers so my wife went to hunt them out, eventually getting a couple at Gate One. They were actually two boarding passes instead of anything looking like food vouchers.
I guess the passengers were in PER after flying from MEL (albeit an adventurous 2 hours late ...).

Reads as though they were going to Perth, rather than being in Perth.

Who would have thought that giving out a meal voucher for a 2 hour delay would cause so much grief.

Agreed. I've had vouchers twice -

AirNZ - DUD. Given vouchers for delayed flight AND transfered onto an earlier flight which was departing immediately - I asked if we could use them on arrival in CHC - yep, no problem! Woohoo, free lunch during transit (onto QF...)

Qantas - A late night delay out of Syd Domestic. We were told we could either be fed in the QP or present our BP's downstairs for $15 worth of food. Went to the QP, waited. No food arrived, so we went downstairs - food places all closed. Grr.

PS: AirNZ had specific coupons for meals due to delays that were noted with the flight number and signed. They worked in a different city, so I assume it's very standardised for them. I'm surprised QF doesn't.

On my last extensive QF delay (4 1/2 hours... on Xmas eve.... how happy I was), QF advised to just present the flights boarding pass to the cafe and they would give $15 (I think) credit. That said it was in ROK, so there weren't too many food options.
