This has not been posted thus far and as I am due to fly to the USA within a week I thought I would post the most recent decisions on what you can carry onto the USA bound flights from Australia according to Sydney Airport Corp. As of a couple of days ago pax were not permitted to carry an ipod or laptop on board, and that was my main concern.

For flights bound for the United States the United States Department of Homeland Security has put in place the following restrictions:
Passengers may not have liquids, gels or aerosols of any size at the screening checkpoint or in the cabin of the aircraft. Duty free items may be carried on in the cabin according the processes set out below. This includes beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, hair spray, liquid cosmetics and other items of similar consistency. Such items may be transported in checked baggage.
Passengers may have:
Baby formula/milk and baby food in small containers if a baby or small child is travelling. Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket. Essential other non-prescription medicines not to exceed 120ml per container. Liquids or gels for diabetic passengers who indicate a need for such items to address their medical condition. Quantities are limited to no greater than 240ml per container. Solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items such as lipstick in a tube, solid deodorant, lip balm and similar solids.
To ensure that passengers are not carrying liquids, gels or aerosols, they and their hand luggage will be subject to physical searches.
Passengers are able to take laptops, Ipods, mobile phones and other electronic devices on board subject to normal security screening.
Duty Free Items
Duty free items, to include liquid, gels and aerosols, may be transported in the cabin of the aircraft if such items are delivered to the passenger immediately before boarding or after they have boarded the aircraft.
