Talking Possible MEL meeting (in CBD) Wed 22 Nov

Looks like I will finally be getting out of BNE and coming to the chilly climes of MEL for a Conference on Thursday and Friday. Better pull my finger out and book my flights so I can arrive by the 6pm starting time for the meeting.

I have accom already (Holiday Inn on Flinders) and as some of us met there earlier this year, the downstairs Bar is now our meeting place.

I'd suggest that it may be a little busy in the Bar, as there are 2,000+ delegates to the Conference and it's one of the closest hotels to the Convention Centre.

Who's up for a drink and meeting other AFF members??

Where: Bar, Ground Floor, Holiday Inn on Flinders (cnr Flinders La & Spencer St)
When: 6pm onwards

Certain starters:

Lindsay

Possible starters:

IainF

Unfortunately I'm not around on the weekend, as I will have an early AM flight back to BNE on Saturday to watch Australia wipe the Poms in the First Test (the joys of being a Qld Cricketers Club member and having a ticket).

I seem to remember a thread asking why everyone was leaving Melbourne on the weekend. Now I think we know the answer. 2000+ financial planners at a conference is a very good reason to avoid Melbourne this week . Have a beer for me .

Hmmm.. IIRC, 30 delegates would make that bar seem crowded. ...

I would hazard a guess that many will head to Crown (Casino) or some other riverside area, so it should be ok.

Count me in; I'll drop by for an HP or three ...

Re: Possible MEL meeting (in CBD) Wed 22 Nov

Well it was a small turn-out however that was fortunate, as I was invited to a 6pm to 7pm drinks and canapes with some of the management. Got serfty and admin invited as well.

Met Don, an American who lives in SEA and is a Sales Manager for Western USA as well as Australia & NZ for a company. Had much delight telling him about the AA Plat Challenge and within 7 hours had another two AA Plat Challengers (he and his wife). He couldn't believe how generous us Aussies were (to give him details about this). He was flying BIS and crediting flights to Alaskan. Now he has been shown the error of his ways.

Now with his B class flights home - QF BNE/NRT and AA NRT/LAX, he'll be a newly minted Plat member by the time he hits LAX.

Then I told him about Priority Club and the bonus points. He made Plat by BIB. Now he knows how to maximise his points .

Well done Lindsay; he seemed a nice guy.

I still remember a conversation along these lines ...

Us: Back to States via NRT eh? What Class?

Dan: Only Coach ...

Us: Hmmm ... What Class of coach?

Dan: (with a blank look) ... What do you mean? ...

Re: Possible MEL meeting (in CBD) Wed 22 Nov

Yes, gave him a lesson on AA.com - he books (usually via Orbitz I think) and his company pays for his tickets. Now he knows how to book his flights (checking the right class of travel) to make sure they are AA earning fares (whether on AA, QF or AS). The light went on

Pity that all his QF flights were N class and his outbound LAX/SYD had been already credited to AS (although he changed it to his AA number at check-in, but didn't keep the BP)

(to give others the crying shame about this guy, he had already flown SEA/LAX/SYD/BNE/DRW/PER/MEL and had MEL/WLG/BNE to go this week)

Now you can add 'L Wilson - Psychic' to your business card

Actually i always liked that comedian who did a routine about psychics, he said he was going to go up to one and clock them in the face and ask "Didn't see that coming, did you?"

I thought it was always inevitable and they didn't show any backbone until Kevin Pietersen had the ball thrown at him by Shane Warne.

Actually, just received an email from Dan and he is still flabbergasted at what I have done for him and his wife (well, he did take me to dinner, so I call that square).
