(Don't worry I'd think of a better name later)

So it all started over a couple of lattes, a beef burger, an oversized meat loaf and a few Asahis. Evan and I were reminiscing over the various people from forums we've met and how nice it'd be to catch up with more. FT has ozfest and the AGM, so why not have an official AFF gathering too! An AFF weekend packed full of festivities!

There are a number of active AFFers based in MEL, including oz_mark who's recently made the move out east from Perthland. Additionally, we have lots to offer in terms of great restaurants, charming cafes and riotous nightlife. And if this gathering proves to be a success, it could soon be an annual event featuring different Australian cities - or even overseas!

I've taken the liberty of appointing myself as organiser, unless there are violent objections. I will however be grateful for any assistance rendered by any AFFer, particularly the MEL chapter. admin has also kindly offered to help out, particularly with regard to his extensive contacts in the airline industry and the media. Yep I'm sure that got your attention.

The purpose of this thread is to identify the most preferred date so as many AFF members can make it as possible. Obviously we aren't going to find the perfect date that suits everybody, but I'd try my best. So what better idea than setting up yet another poll!

In discussions with a few AFFers, I've narrowed it down to the following:

Weekend of August 1st to 3rd

Weekend of November 28th to 30th

NB: Everyone is welcome regardless of drinking ability or lack thereof! So get voting!

I will close this poll in about a week's time - on Thursday APR 3rd at 0000 AEDT SHARP!

Well I'll get the ball rolling with a somewhat selfish vote for November 28 to 30. I'll likely be in AKL over August 1 to 3 (Bledisloe Cup awaits!)

I do have to admit that Nov is better for me for a rather selfish reason - more time to organise. But I'm happy to go with the general consensus.

Great idea QF009, I'm a definite for August. Fingers crossed (a bit morbid but....) I'll be living in a different country in November.

I like Melbourne in winter, much less of a chance for it to be 43 degrees and zero humidity.

For me, I don't mind which date is selected - I have no idea what my movements will be in two weeks time, let alone all that time out... At least I won't need to book an award flight for this one...

As another resident Melburnian I hope to make an appearance. November gets my vote for the same reason as oz_mark - it should be a little less miserable in November than August.

    stuartfaz, I am very jealous!
