There are several lodges in Ecuador on the tributaries of the Amazon.Personally I think it is essential they be supported because far from a pristine wilderness the oil companies are very active.
We chose Napo and are glad we did.It is owned and run by the local villagers. The profit goes into upgrades and to providing medical services and schooling.
It is an adventure just getting there with a 30 minute flight from Quito to Coca.A local bus ride to the Napo river.2 and a half hours down the river in a motorised canoe, the an hous paddle up the creek to the centre. However on the way you begin your wildlife adventure.By the time we reached the lodge we had seen a sloth, monkeys, caiman and caiman lizards as well as numerous birds. The first view of the lodge is great-
Our room, with mrsdrron in the hammock-
Sunrise from the balcony-
And sunset from a canoe-
The bird life is amazing-
Certainly an adventure well worth while.Staff are very good.Marcello the barman really knows what good service is.The local guides really know their stuff(though little English). The nature guides though speak reasonable English and are knowledgable.
Saw an amazing amount of wildlife. The highlight having the head of a 4 metre Anaconda about a foot for mine-luckily he/she was just as scared. Also the shock meant camera wasnt produced quickly enough.

Don't take it the wrong way but that is pretty adventuresome for a slight older couple. Very impressive!
