Here is my awful PH Melbourne experience.
Been charged AUD200 for smoking cleaning fee from PH Melbourne
As PH Melbourne is non smoking free hotel.
I never smoking of course I am not smoker.
Letter from assistant front office manager.
Dear Mr. Chen
Upon cleaning your room on the nigh of Monday 23rd March 2009, our housekeeping department has found that there was evidence of cigarette smoking.
In regards to smoking in the hotel, Park Hyatt Melbourne is a non-smoking hotel in line with Victorian Smoking Legislation. We inform guests via a leaflet in the key wallet, hotel lift display and also by not having ashtrays in our rooms and suites. In order to refresh your room from the cigarette smell, extra cleaning is required. This is also stated upon the registration card whilst checking-in.
The cost of the extra cleaning of your suite, being $200.00, has been passed onto you and I attached a receipt for your reference.
After received this e-mail.Spoke to assistant front office manager.
He immediately refund 200AUD and apologize the mistake
Maybe the hotel ventilation system is bugged.
The hotel's management is weak.Only rely on housekeeping reported.
They should send housekeeping manager or someone check the room again.
Strong recommend anyone going to stay PH MEL please ask staff double check your room before check out.
I will complain to GM if I get his contact detail.
I do like this hotel design and lounge,however after this catastrophic service.
PH Melbourne is under my blacklist.

Yes, I'd be advising calmness in this situation. In travels, service providers do make mistakes - you are lucky that yours was rectified so promptly.

After reading review on flyer talk,and trip advisor.Its not only happened to me.
They should send someone double check the room before charged me,not only rely on housekeeping reported.
I was in Park Hyatt Melbourne last months .It is perfect.Only the meal in the restaurant was unsavory.
For this time
When I check in around 4pm,my room is not ready.They ask me touring around the hotel for an hour.
They will call me when my room is ready.After 15 minutes I feel bored.I just notice that I can go to lounge.Why the lady didn't bring me to loge instead ask me wait in lobby for an hour.
Again my AMEX package set menu in restaurant didn't changed.I pay extra money select from a la carte menu.Even though the total amount is less then the set menu.
Should I give them one more chance?Everytime when check out I need ask someone make sure my room is ok.

The reason I was very angry. The assistant manager said the housekeeping reported the room is all over the smoke and smelly.They need cleaning everything.
I am pretty sure the room was fine when check out.
Anyway they refund my money.
That happened to me a few times but it was only a 2 star hotel although that is no excuse not to have clean linen.
I arrived at around 2:00-3:00am and lucky I crashed on the bed in my clothes as I was so tired. When I woke up in the morning I noticed the state of the linen and the garbage bin was not emptied either. Called management and they brought housekeeping over to clean room straight away.
