My 3 trips to Broome have all been spent at Cable Beach Club Resort. It has its faults, but I like the privacy offered by the bungalows as they are stand alone units, rather than adjoined as in a number of other resorts. Therefore no having to put up with noise from people in adjoining rooms coming and going, playing music, kids screaming etc. I have looked at other options, but keep coming back to CBC for that reason.

Staircase to the moon won't be visible from Cable Beach though..

I do remember a beatiful place called Moonlight Bay or something..

Problems there recently with natives living in the streets - they have moved there in droves because of the full strength booze ban in Fitzroy Crossing, but still a lovely place.

Stayed last year at the Mercure which was Bessa Block units, though resonably clean.
Food was pretty good - but next time I will be paying more for one of the places at Cable Beach.

No, certainly not visible from Cable Beach, but you don't need to stay in the exact location to enjoy staircase to the moon - just do what everyone else does and find a viewing area, watch it, and then go back to the resort.

I stayed at the Mercure early last year for 1 night and in my opinion the rooms are ordinary and over priced.

I've stayed in Broome at three places - the Cable Beach Club, Rendezvous Resort and Seashells. I'd put them in that order (but adminttedly only spent a night each at the latter two, and I was there briefly for work, before flying out next morning). Rendezvous was brand new at the time - still work on the pool going on, not sure where it's at now, but was a good compromise in that at the time it was nowhere near as expensive as the Cable Beach Club. Drawback is that it's not over the road from the beach.

Thanks all.The Cable Beach club has been copping a bit of a hammering lately in reviews and friends did not enjoy their stay. Also the quotes for next year are quite high.
There will be 2 couples and we have looked at a 3 bedroom unit at frangipani,2-1 bed deluxe units at Moonlight bay or a 2 bed unit at Captains by the bay.All these options would be less than half the cost of Cable Beach. At Captains they throw in a rental car with the stay.
Bambbbam2 did you stay at Moonlight Bay-certainly they say you can see the staircase from the deluxe units.

I believe so - it was 3-4 years ago and I know hotels change their name regularly.

it was about 15 minutes walk from the shops in town..

Just to update. We are staying at Captains by the Bay now.A really good cheaper alternative.Staying in a 2 bedroom unit with another couple.Cost $250 a night which includes a rental car-should be a Hyundai getz but someone pranged a getz so we have an Elantra.Modern, well appointed, full kichen plus a verandah with BBQ and a laundry. Not really by the bay but an easy walk into town, town beach for the stairway to heaven and Matso's brewery.
The Cable Beach Club was $350 and we would have needed 2 rooms so over 4 nights we are saving between us $1800.Will post some pictures later.
Also for restaurants we went to the Old Zoo Cafe for lunch and can highly reccomend it.Will do a TR later and post pictures..
