I was at the LA consulate on Monday morning to vote, and they had a leaflet for credit cards for Australians without a US credit history or score:

The terms seem excellent (ie 0% for balance transfers and purchases for first 9 billing cycles) and ofcourse the biggest benefit is that you'll get approved without a US credit history and thereby start building one.
