Re: High Card Limit

You may find that's not really an attainable limit when you're signing up for a new card. Usually they start you off on a lower limit and once you develop a bit of a history with them they will start offering you limit increases and will be likely to accept requests for limit increases.

If you have an existing card, you might be more likely to have success by requesting a limit increase from them. If you've had a good relationship with them (always paying the bill on time etc.) then they're quite likely to approve limit increase requests.

Re: High Card Limit

As SeaWolf mentioned you may have difficulty applying for a high limit card as your first card. Some platinum cards will give you a high initial limit if you meet their criteria, but have much higher annual charges.

One option is get a credit card with a smaller limit, and on top of that apply for a charge card - either Diners or Amex. Through these you can earn QFF points.

Note though with charge cards they must be paid in full each month otherwise the late fees are very steep. Also note that even with a charge card the provider will probably want to see a good repayment history before racking up anywhere near $20K in purchases in a month.

Re: High Card Limit

Citibank gave me more than $20K limit on my Readicredit account when I had no prior history with them. Its not really a credit card, but a line of credit more like a personal loan I can draw upon at any time, including via a Visa card if desired (I have not taken that option).

Re: High Card Limit

A little bit ago, I signed up for the Citibank gold card under the free for life offer. The credit limit they gave me was $25k.

I notice that $25k is the maximum limit for the gold card, so am not sure if they would have given a bigger limit if I had applied for the Platinum card.

Re: High Card Limit

ANZ Gold gave me $20k only a few weeks ago. Amex Platinum probably would have given that much if I wanted it. YMMV.

Re: High Card Limit

Virgin Mastercard gave us 25K when we first apply and periodically offering a higher limit should we want to.

But as per replies above, I do not know if this has anything to do with us having other cards in hand before, i.e Virgin is not our first credit card.

Re: High Card Limit

Hi Guys

Thx for the replies. I called Citibank and they say If I have to avail of the No annual fee offer I have to have a code, I was wondering If I could use anyone elses or does it have to be specifically sent out to me.

Thanks Again
