I'm looking at this short leg later in the year and am wondering if anyone has recent experience. Both front and back of the plane are substantially cheaper than CX. On time performance appears ok but the quality of the product in J gets mixed reviews.

I flew the BKK-HKG leg late last year. Stupidly, I went in Y not realising J was only ~$100 more and I would imagine earns full J points/SC.

The Y service was average at best. Crew were rude and blunt (then again, I think they fly straight through from Amman so I can't blame them too much) but the food was terrible. I had beef of some sort but didn't touch it. I'm drawing blank on the alcohol service... can't remember it to save myself but I'm guessing there was something available.

I'm doing it again in a few months but J this time. I guess given its only about $350 for business one can't complain too much. Even Air Asia is rarely less than $200 on this route.

Definitely worth the extra $100 for J over Y or a LCC. Very impressed with their service when I flew J in January. The aircraft from BKK-HKG was almost empty (with the majority departing the plane after arriving from AMM), and no more than half of the 18 J seats were taken (with 3 being in my party).

I believe the AMM-BKK-HKG flight was on an A310 (51" in J), not sure if it's changed since January.

It is indeed still operated by A310 aircraft.

I had totally forgotten about using RJ from BKK-HKG.

I don't know where people are getting their airfares but business class appears to be 2.5 times the price of economy. Still good to have another option to get from HKG-BKK and return if I can ever find award availability on VS....

One-way? For January 2010 and April 2010 I am getting ~7,500 THB return for WHY and ~19,500 THB return for business class. I don't have definite dates yet just looking at various options....
