QF Perth to Melb returns

Just landed from Perth - Sydney flight and wondering if the Perth Melbourne flight which returned to Perth after engine failure made it out of Perth eventually?

Appartently the flight was 30 minutes out of Perth when a piece of metal dislodged and caused engin failure resulting in the flight returning to Perth.

When I left it was apparently 45 minutes from takeoff.

Re: QF Perth to Melb returns

Funny you mention that, I was just observing that the return sector is leaving late (left at 23:13 instead of 19:40) and a 333 has been subbed ex MEL for the 743 ( which to answer your question wasn't landing until 23:10 last time I looked - nearly 5 hours late). Only reason I was looking, is that my partner has caught the 19:40 743 MEL-PER flight three times in the last month, each time it was nearly an hour late leaving MEL (and I noticed it pushing back as I was disembarking from a BNE flight at nearly 8:30 the other night). Not the most reliable flight.

Aircraft forced back (The West Australian)

A Qantas Boeing 747 plane enroute to Melbourne was forced to return to Perth yesterday afternoon after the pilot became concerned about engine noises.

The pilot of QF802 safely landed the aircraft after the No. 2 engine was found to be vibrating.

A Qantas spokeswoman said engineers inspected the aircraft and found noise-reduction material had come away from the inside of the engine.

The spokeswoman said the plane was able to depart at 5.30pm, four hours late.

I'd be interested in knwoing the on time stats of QF481 - I have been on this a number of times in the last year, and I think its managed to leave on time once.

Expertflyer lists it as 52%, with an average delay of 30 minutes. This flight has the worst on time performance of all QF/JQ/DJ MEL-PER flights.

Re: QF Perth to Melb returns

I was on the QF648 that became an Airbus instead. Was supposed to leave at 2330 or 2350 -but took off just after 2am. Food vouchers were given to everyone. Flight was full in economy, business was 17 out of 30. 14 crew instead of the typical 10 on the airbus since this was scheduled to be a 743 which has 13 crew but they had one extra , so the service was completed very quickly allowing everyone to sleep (especially those lucky ones in Business)

Friday's QF802 departed at 17:35 some 275 minutes late.

It landed in MEL ar 23:10, some 290 minutes late.

For reference, it was operated by EBX, the one a luggage lift ran into last year.

Not exactly a stellar performance is it. I see FlightStats rates its on-time performance as 'Very Poor'.
