Just thinking about it - if I salary sacrificed it the net cost would actually be maybe $400... I reckon when travelling long haul and not in a suit, that little machine would fit in a pocket in my cargo pants...

Re: $249 Laptop
I wouldn't mind a eee PC 900, but the biggest problem is that it doesn't have an internal ExpressCard slot, like the HP 2133 Mini Note PC. It means to use my 3G Broadband HSDPA card, I need to get a USB to ExpressCard adapter, and somehow jury-rig it to the outside.
Myers have their stocktake sale on now, and I just purchased the Asus 900 with XP (using it now) and it is fast. It has a 900Mhz processor and 1GB of ram. The keyboard takes a little getting use to, but it is quite easy after a short while. Myer have a stocktake deal on until 6th June which was a package for $649 and included the Asus 900 with xp (black or white), and a 120GB Buffalo USB drive. Took me under 5 mins to set it up with wireless connection, and weighs about a kilogram in weight. Very pleased with my purchase thus far, and will see how it goes on my next trip to the USA in August.

HP Mini Note = hot, fan, batter life not that great, poorish performance. Good keyboard, good HP design, odd choice of chip !
MSI wind = seems to be nice, also has a fan
EeePC 900 = keyboard just a little too small, light, cheap, ok batter life.
The MSI and the Eee both also run Atom's now.
I honestly cant decide i love HP because i assume common power supplies etc with my other HP gear. I want one of these cheap machines though for when traveling.

Just check, because I think it is the 901 (not 900) which is soon to be released or has been released has the atom.

Yes, it is the 901 with Atom, and the 1000 (but 1000 is not that interesting, for a machine that large they should have a 12" screen)
Its announced as released now, i will be in Tiapei soon so can probably buy them there as well.
By all account the atom and 900mhz celeron are both reasonable and not a ot of advantage in either from the reviews i have read so far. Not sure what chipset the Eee has but in the MSI wind the atom is a 4w thermal design, and the chipset an 8w thermal design !!! Oh well i am sure there will be more chipsets soon.
I'll be curious to get a closer look at the Dell offering when it's released as well. At the moment there's just a couple of photos floating around, but no specs.
