Webjet's One Day Only WORLD SALE On Today! - Webjet.com.au
I'm pretty iffy about this sale. Webjet have done it before and I wasn't impressed then either.
There is no mention on the site what fares are on sale. Just an invitation to go searching for the discount fares.
When you search, you are presented with fares that are marked as Sale fares.
Here is an example:
Brisbane - Singapore 15 March 2008, returning 22 March 2008.
I clicked on one of the 'sale' fares from Qantas ($941 base + 317 taxes = $1258). The fare code is mentioned as VKBB/V and I selected QF51 and QF52 as my flights.
Using Expertflyer to verify the discount, I plugged in the same dates and checked the fare. Expertflyer says the base fare is $970.00. and it was the cheapest published fare on that day.
Indeed it appears that there is a small $29 discount off the base fare. However, since I pay Webjet $28.75 to book the ticket (a Transaction fee and a seat guarantee fee which locks in the price I've been offered) , I don't see the benefit I get. (The total fare worked out to be $1,287.02)
The cheapest fare offered on the same flights via the Qantas was a red-e-deal $1275.37+ 12.00 Credit Card surcharge = $1287.37
Yep big saving.
Since then, I've done a couple of other searches using high priced tickets, and there are indeed savings, but not the huge savings you might expect.
