UA to LAX/SFO - when will fares drop?

I'm *G on UA.

It would seem that they would need to start dropping fares on SYD/LAX and SYD/SFO when V starts flying these routes, at what are 20% of so less (still too high on this, the highest profit route in the world).

Any ideas when Dec/Jan fares are likely to be "adjusted" by United, normally?

Re: UA to LAX/SFO - when will fares drop?

Why would UA drop their fares over one of the busiest travel periods of the year?

New competition or not, I wouldn't expect Dec/Jan fares to be influenced greatly.

I doubt VA is causing many sleepless nights for the board at UA and QF, time will tell though I guess depending on what sort of market share VA can grab.

Re: UA to LAX/SFO - when will fares drop?

I don't believe I've seen any competitive price drops that I can attribute to VA starting up yet. I think the market will absorb the extra capacity for a while, but in a year or so things could change and competition ensue. Depends on how successful VA are in snaring pax from UA/QF, what sort of specials they want to run, and the number of flights/aircraft they can get running.

But everyone seems comfy at the moment to not rock the boat.

Also, I agree that Dec/Jan being peak time provides a very low chance of specials.
