Thanks for the advice.

I travelled over the Australia Day Weekend and no QFF activity, lets alone points/SC's have posted to my QFF account as yet - I have put claims in for the travel. Not worried about that as none of the JQ flights I have had this year (6) have posted without manual claims.

My WP status provided Qantas First lounge access in SYD, Class gave access to the Asuka lounge in the northern departure concourse at KIX. This also services UA, NWA and AY.

For Japan flights, JQ have available cold Bento boxes in addition to the normal fare - which made a nice change from standard airline food. (Also Saki and Asashi Beer)

I used the JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service as the Hilton is a 5 minute (underground) walk from the Osaka Station. This was ¥1160 each way.

I decided on the KISS principle and took the JR Osaka Loop Line to/from (¥140 e/w) "Osaka Castle". I had a 4½ hour stroll around and in the main building and grounds. It reminded me of nothing so much as a Japanese version of the "Tower of London" with it's historical theme of warfare around the region.

I intended to visit the nearby Osaka Museum of History, but the roads were blocked along their lenght due to the "Osaka Womens International Marathon".

Tried some Takoyaki from a vendor near the castle entrance. (Also had some Okonomiyaki at breakfast.)

It was a cold day of ~3°C with one or two fine snow flurries to spice up once activities. By the time I got back to KIX, my eyes were smarting from the cold and I had to purchase some eye-drops for relief.

Two of my least favourite Japanese dishes - hope you enjoyed.

I would have brought to your attention the Ritz Carlton special in KIX for only around Aus$150/ night, but I found out about it after you left. Still the Hilton is convenient and reasonably priced.

Cheers, the Hilton was ok (the stay re qualified my HH Gold for another 14 months), breakfast Okonomiyaki was available part of my HH Gold comp breakfast.

In all honesty, I won't be in a rush for that nor Takoyaki in the future. (At least the octopus balls were nice and hot on a very cold outdoor environment)

Truth be told I can't stand the stuff - though my wife loves it. I had tempura for dinner which I like - unfortunately the same (leftover) flour mix is commonly used for okonomiyaki dishes .

The 140 SC's and 4853 QFF points + J & WP bonii have now posted for SYD-KIX. That's now a total 280 SC's and over 21000 QFF points.

Which is a nice piece of work for relatively few dollars on the special.

Mine is soon and is JQ15 CNS-KIX on the Thursday and both JQ15 KIX-NGO and JQ16 NGO-CNS the following Monday. That should also pick up 280 SC's because of the short KIX-NGO flight (120+40+120). Hadn't looked closely but it seems it's a three sector route from Cairns.

Re: Star Class Sale Japan Jan08

Just finishing this off. I picked up short of 18000 points and 280SCs for an outlay of just over $1000. Not at all shabby.

The KIX-NGO leg earned a 1250 points minimum guarantee and 40 SCs and I was also helped by both KIX and NGO being a tiny bit over 3600 miles from CNS.

Also had a great 4 days in Kobe and Osaka which I'll cover in a trip report. Looking for the next star class special.

Re: Star Class Sale Japan Jan08

Just for the heads up guys,

JQ will be sending out letters (snail mail) to some of their previous SC customers offering them a $100 discount each way for their next SC journey..

Nothing huge, but here are some details:
