From FT: It's about double if you are going in the other direction ...
Now for some first class fares:

LHR-OZ £2999
LHR-SIN/BKK £2399

I still cannot comprehend how it costs double to travel from Australia to Europe as opposed to travelling from Europe to Australia. I think someone mentioned recently that it was competition from UK/Europe but the way I see it the aircraft that comes to Australia has to go back again.
It is sad we live in a country where it is cheaper to purchase an airfare from Australia-SE Asia and a separate airfare from SE Asia-Europe and it is cheaper than the through airfare Australia-Europe utilising exactly the same flights and services....

May QF are anticipating an adjustment in the £:$ exchange rates ...

I might be missing something here...but most people get return rather than one way tickets....so I cannot see how there can be empty seats in one direction that "need filling"......apart from special events.
I think it is more likely that QF has quitea few regular Auastrlian basedBusiness Travellers that they believe will stump up the cash regadless (so why discount?) vsa lot of discreationarly UK travellers that can be swayed if the price is right.
Huh? Just a guess but I would say there are more Australians travelling in/out of the country on a regular basis than tourists coming into Australia.
I think supply and demand is a poor excuse to use. Why am I paying double for the same seat if I am travelling in business class on QF2 LHR-SYD on a ticket purchased in Australia than the person sitting next to me business class on a ticket purchased in the UK?
Can't wait for the day where the price of one-way international airfares is down to realistic levels....
