Cheap One Ways. Do They Exist?

Hi all,

Im an Aussie expat currently hanging about in the Netherlands and looking to make the move back to Aus in July but this is of course peak travel time for the Northern hemisphere.

I'm going to visit friends back in the UK and figured the cheapest way to get back to MEL would be from LHR, but OW flights seem amazingly expensive for mid July. And all current "special" fares (alebeit only returns) from the likes of QF only go until June 30 and I really can't change plans at the moment to bring the date forward.

Should I opt now for the cheapest fare I can find, approx £550 or wait a few months and see what happens?

Cheers!

In my experience with QF international flights the answer is no.

There are a lot of great QF deals flying back from SIN back to Australia and I have been trying to take advantage of them. I have searched for a cheap one way airfare from SYD-SIN but the best that I can find on the majority of flights is a one-way airfare almost the same price as the return airfare price and in some cases the one-way airfare even more expensive than the return airfare price.

Not sure why this is but someone may have a better explanation.

Try Air NZ - all there fares are now one way. Actually it would be handy to have a list of airlines that offer one-way fares (at half return price).

If you buy a cheap ticket that is seasonally dependent fare (which the cheapest economy tickets tend to be) then you cant just change it to a more expensive season - you will need to pay fare difference (plus any change fees).

In August I purchased a oneway SIN-MEL fare for on the Singapore Qantas Web Site about SGD$580 (AUD470); 'tis now from SGD593.

Can't do the other way for less than AUD997.
