"The 50% reduction is calculated on the tax exclusive price. "
Right?
Wrong.
1/2 price on the tax/fees/FUEL SURCHARGE exclusive price.
Makes it around $75 more expensive than it should be.
Once again Australian's are being misled by fuel surcharges and an airline is trying to hide them away as a tax or other associated charge... Bring on full visibility of all charges in the base airfare.
Further more.
The website also says "We are offering lovers, and others, a sweet 50% off British Airways return airfares from Sydney to Bangkok and Singapore and from Melbourne to Singapore, booked on ba.com. "
So it's 50% off the cheapest fare right?
WRONG!
The special fare SYD-SIN seems to book into R class ($904 ++ normally). The cheapest advertised fare at the moment for mid March is $600++ in O class SYD-SIN. The advertised fares MEL-SIN are similar.
An example:
Leave Mar 16, Come back Mar 23 (SYD-SIN).
Discounted Fare:
Fare 452.00 AUD Taxes/Surcharges 263.18 AUD Total 715.18 AUD
Non Discounted Fare (Lowest) - Same Dates.
Fare 600.00 AUD Taxes/Surcharges 263.18 AUD Total 863.18 AUD
MEL-SIN the "discounted" price is $695.92 vs a non-discounted price of $843.92
1/2 price my big toe!!!
