I will give my tip but I'm also hoping someone will gazump me with an even better tip.

I often visit Singapore and frequently require Car Rental for driving both in Singapore and Malaysia.

Booking on-line with Avis, Hertz etc, I have always found their rates very pricey even as a "preferred" member etc. As we all know it is expensive to own a car in Singapore, so I just accepted this as the going rate.

However recently I have been using National Car; look at www.nationalcar.com and have been hiring cars for about 2/3 price of Avis etc.

You can achieve some status with them, but no tie up with FF program.
Have to book in advance however as they have no "desk" at Changi. They will meet you at the airport though.

Anyway, saves money, but was wondering if there was an easier way to achieve cheaper Changi car rentals with the major brands (I'm aware that National is reasonably large but anyway...) - Any Singapore residents out there?

Yes, Hertz in Australia used to quote me a higher rate. Nowadays I phone the overseas offices (Hertz or Avis etc) to book. A call costs anything from A$0.02 to A$0.05 cents per minute using a phone card. Do watch out for airport charges when picking up or dropping a car at an airport.
