Anyone with an Avis experience out of Perth
On a brighter note, in Perth I left my hands free unit in the car. On arrival in Melbourne I called them. They put it aside, and my colleague picked it up when he was over the following week.

Can't say the same happened in Brisbane when I left the dam thing behind again... no return that time.... any body come across a blue ant hands free unit out of Thrifty BNE airport????

Re: Hertz Camry uses 28.5l/100km of fuel in Perth

Call me a sceptic but I have always filled up the tank, even when it was only $5.00 once in DRW, before returning a hire car. I do not want any nasty surprises on the bill and the effort it would to fix the rort.

I generally hire a small economy car but once I was upgraded to a Camry and found that the fuel consumption rate is around 6-7 kms/litre....

Re: Hertz Camry uses 28.5l/100km of fuel in Perth

1. 90% of the time I refill near the airport and a few times I've thought it took too much fuel to refill, (These days I'm Hertz Gold) and on mentioning it Ive had a credit applied for the "extra" fuel I bought! I always figured it was low mileage renters bringing them back without filling. Anyway last week I took a car back in Melb with no time to refill, the guy started to do the receipt and I said " mate I ahvent filled it" the reply " no worries it's on us!!"

2. On the damage form deal. in 2003 I took a car from SYD to CBR. and didnt inspect. When I returned it the guy picked up some damage, when I protested, he lifted the boot mat - where the spare is - and on the underside was a diagram of the car showing a permanent record of previous marks and sure enough - there was the ding they wanted to pin on me. He apologised and I learnt a new trick of the trade. Most renters have a similar system.

Re: Hertz Camry uses 28.5l/100km of fuel in Perth

1: Always be very pedantic checking damage when returning to franchisees. Hertz Moorabbin wanted to pin some underbody scuffs on me on a car that I literally drove there from the airport. They check their returns with magnifying glass, even climb on the sill to check the roof.
2 Hertz in franklin St melbourne gave me a filthy Camry that smelled of cigarettes and that took 15 litres to refill for 60 km. Airport creditied me $20
3.Hertz Perth also ripped me off on fuel
4.Hertz Melbourne charged me for toll when I was using my own e-tag
5. I took a Prius once in Melbourne, drove 88 km and it still had 8/8 on fuel bar graph. I took it back and paid nothing for petrol. Surely it was not THAT economical. I guess the person after me got stung.
6. Hertz in Tassie alway kept trying to upgrade me to a Hyundai Santa Fe when I asked for a Camry. When I want a Camry I want a Camry not a behemoth that houls and takes huge amounts of petrol. I used to commute between Launceston and Hobart during my regular trips there and Camry is a lot more relaxed for highway.
7. Nor when I ask for a Camry do I want a purple or orange XR6. If I wanted a Falcon I would add extra $1 on my corporate rate!!! I do not want to look like Guido Hatzis when visiting customers!!!
8 Hertz Burnie gave me a Corolla with bald tires and no brakes. I almost got killed trying to stop in the wet going downhill when the lights changed to red.
9 And finally Hertz Singapore gave me a 3 year old Sonata with 90 K on the clock. I drove to Malaysia. Wheels were out of alignment and it shook like crazy over 60kmh. Wipers were worn, and I hit a tropical rainstorm. Had to stop 5 times as I could not see. And when I got back to Singapore I found out that my front bumper almost fell off! After getting back at 2 am, I had to spend another 2 hours in the carpark with hammer and screwdrivers whacking it back into place. I am sure someone else has done it befor as the mounts were broken and damage was old!

Generally corporate locations are more sloppy with damage and more forgiving with petrol. Private locations not so.

Re: Hertz Camry uses 28.5l/100km of fuel in Perth

A major frustration for me is the car companies in Cyprus. They only allow you to buy the full tank of fuel - so you pay that when you rent the car - doesnt matter whether it comes back full or not. So when driving LCA-PFO-LCA and you only use 1/4 tank it basically doubles the rental

So I always give the clutch a good work out round the hills for good measure

Re: Hertz Camry uses 28.5l/100km of fuel in Perth

Had a compact booked with Thrifty, most times I get the upgrade just handed to me.

However, picked up from BNE last night and was told the following.. Hi sir, we have a complimentary upgrade available to you for a larger car (XR 6) if you would like??

I looked up, smiled, and said of course... noticing she already had the paperwork pretty much prepared expecting the positive response.

I then asked if she had anyone not take up the option. I was surprised when she said yes... for the reasons stated above I guess... some ppl only want a small car for parking/fuel etc..

I guess it was nice to be asked, this was however the first time the request was made, normally just assumed it would be wanted I guess.
