The question do you take Amex is one that I never like asking.

Generally I find the places that do not accept it have no signage at all about accepting credit cards.

The ones that do accept it usually have a big blue Amex sticker/sign I have found!

While this does annoy me sometimes, most of the time the terminal just comes up with "Card not accepted", stopping it from going through when they have no agreement with Amex, or when the terminal hasn't been setup correctly.

I wish more of these people you speak of (the non-observant type) worked at places that surcharge! Having said that, I've managed to avoid the JB surcharge a few times - as they didn't look at the card or receipt to see if it was Amex or Diners, and just closed it off to Visa/MC This usually works more often if you're dealing with someone younger, and wearing some kind of work uniform yourself - as they probably think you wouldn't have an Amex or Diners card, and are too busy chatting to their friends at work.

Sorry to double-post, but I only just saw your message.

I've had mixed experiences - places that have no logos but accept all cards (as we do at work), and places that only display logos for EFTPOS/Visa/MC, but also take Amex (no surcharge) if you ask, or just give them the card.

I believe that small Corporates get charged whilst large corporates do not

It depends on how much hair you have, i.e. length and volume, but particularly length. Most women with long hair would argue that good hair products are not over rated.

I guess it might prove that you are not a woman with long hair, and neither is Markis

    Did you mean Oz_mark?

We are all different. I have a reasonable amount of hair, although it is thinning rapidly, and only slightly more than Oz_mark. My hair varies from a number 3-4 cut to whatever length it grows in 8-10 weeks and it gets washed with soap daily. I do not like the feel or look of my hair after shampoo and/or conditioner and stopped using these products over 30 years ago....

I think AMEX did not handle very well about the merchant accepting, today after chose the favorite shirt in MARCS, pay as normal to use my AMEX but was told there is 2.5% surcharge. I can understand some small local retail shops surcharge a little bit to cover their costs but as a fashion shop, I never had that experience before, so sad. I don't think I will shop in MARCS again because that is absolutely ridiculous.

Thats where I or mrsdrron say(if not a must have purchase) well just tell your boss your CC policy has lost you a sale and walk off. This really does irk me.More so in restaurants where you are stuck when they hit you with it-again they are often told we will not be back.If there is a surcharge there should be a notice to that effect which is easily seen.

A cost is a cost, a small or large business accepting AMEX is an extra cost

Except that a large business with a high credit card throughput should be in a position to negotiate a better deal with organisations like Amex and Diners, such that the difference between the Visa/Mastercard fees and Amex/Diners fees should not be in the order of 2-3%.
