Re: 30000 Qantas points - Qantas American Express Premium Card

Ah.....that is what we all want to know....

I tried to double dip a while back...without resigning as there was no fine print about "existing membership"......I received a new card but no bonus points or extra Qantas Club passess....despite their being no fine print.

Hence I noted with interest that they have now addedan existing membership line....I might try quoting this to them to see if I can gert the points on the last deal.

I did however start the 12 month free period again....and cancelled the old card when its 12 months were nearing.

If they look at your history, they may not approve the application. That is one of the risks of chasing credit card deals.

Fair enough. My credit history would only show two applications in the past 3 years, both of them sucessful, and nothing adverse.

Maybe its worth a shot, although I would be loathe to have a "credit rejected" entry put on my history...

But your Amex customer history will show accepting a First Year Free offer and then cancelling just prior to the annual fee being due, and then applying for a new card with a significant sign-up offer. They just may spot a pattern.

Yes they may spot a pattern...

But how much are you spending with them per month??

If it is healthy then I would imagine that they would still want the business. Their offers after all are designed to get people spending using their card.

If you don't havea card then they cannot make any money off you.

Whereas if you are just joining, taking the points and not spending then I would imagine that they would be fussier about signing you up again.

Re: 30000 Qantas points - Qantas American Express Premium Card

I was putting about 2k through the card each month, on average, so certainly wasn't a non-user.

I did manage to pay it off every month though, so they never made any money of out me directly (of course, with the merchant fees they would have made a bit, but I only ever used the card where I was not penalised for using Amex over Visa).

Well, I guess its worth a go, but maybe I should wait just a little bit longer, and see if that eases the pain...

Interestingly, when I cancelled the card, they did offer me to halve the annual fee on the card when it was due, so they did try and keep me (not that they tried very hard...)

I sure do wish I could get away with data sets giving 'patterns' with just two points

"mmmmmm, n=2, now time for the pub."

Re: 30000 Qantas points - Qantas American Express Premium Card

interesting discussion here. I am an existing Qantas AMEX Ultimate card holder. When i saw this offer, AND read the fine print, sure it says that offer is only applicable to new Qantas AMEX Premium card applicants.

My question is, being a Ultimate card holder and NOT a Premium card holder, am i therefore considered a new applicant for the Premium card? Or does the clause simply mean the offer is only for new AMEX customers (regardless of what card u hold/held)?

I signed up for the Premim card and received the card in the mail last week. This card is gonna cost me $195 for the first year (comes with the 30k points), i figured $195 for 30k points is pretty sweet. If they do not give me the points due to the fact that i was an existing AMEX cardholder, i would be really ticked off, and will cancel the card immediatey and get the pro-rated refund of my annual fee. No reason to keep the Premium card if i'm already holding the better Ultimate card.

.
No it says....

25,000 points offer only available to new customers who apply and are approved for the Qantas American Express Premium Card

I would read that as new customers to AMEX...who are approved for one particular AMEX product which in this case is the Premium card.
