I understand your position and appreciate your perspective but a few posts ago I was asked whether I worked for AMEX (which is strange since I am advocating limiting spending to just 40 transaction) so I am waiting for someone to ask if you do .

Good on you Amex... 40K is a fair gift for anyone...

sorry for those who wanted to take the whole family around the world for FREE... It is unrealistic to think that one can get the equivalent to 1000's of dollars for Free...
Every single post you have made you have defended AMEX.

I am thinking you have some connection with them, and not just a general user of the card.

AMEX came out with a promotion that was VERY clear in what was possible. They are now trying to backpedal

All very nice for you to say "thanks AMEX for giving us anything" but that just doesn't cut it.

Can I recommend that people call AMEX on 1300 307 493 and recommend that they introduce a cap based on previous 6 months transactions or 40 transactions (the 40,000 points) whichever is higher.

So do i but i noticed yesterday (funny how normally i wouldnt even notice) that they are indeed transacted from Singapore Australia. Now as far as im aware there isnt one of them in Australia... But having said that according the the T & C's that the purchase is in Australia according to the statement and therefore the rules. So in theory its a valid transaction.

AFAIC there is no cap. The t&cs state that quite clearly.
As for the rep saying that people were abusing the program ---- Bollocks! (the rep, not lovestotravel) That's no reason to change the conditions -- Simply deal with the abusers. If, as the rep told you, it is being abused, clearly they know who the abusers are and can deal with them.

People are reporting that they are enrolling by phone as late as yesterday and being told there is no cap.

Amex are not stupid and would have done the sums before offering this. Most people I know would average 30 - 75 transactions per month. That equates to 30,000 - 75,000 points. We must assume that the promotion is designed to increase our use of Amex, therefore Amex would expect to be paying each and every punter who registered for the promotion somewhere in the vicinity of 90,000 - 225,000 points or so for the entire promotion even if they didn't change their spending habits.

I'll be changing my habits in a moderate way and waiting to see what happens. Any speculated 40,000 cap should become obvious in only a week or so. Then, and only then will I consider my position. At the moment I am more than happy.

p.s. I'm amused at the (almost hysterical) speculation going on in this thread. I think a few posters need a cold shower.

I am too honest to work for any banking or lending institution mate LOL ... I have been a QFF member for many many years... Got many free tickes to few destinations.... And know this free trips somehow cost you something ... That something is usually made by the Annual fee + purchases amount + number of purchases + Merchant fees charged by the issuer of the CC ... It all adds up to give you a free trip... This promo did not make sense from the begining. As I said before I prefer the things clear and now that we know there is a limit at least we dont need to go Crazy...

Look at the Home Lending offers at QFF web... you can make a few 100,000's points by getting a $700,000 loan and the points are staged in sever years... they add Xpoints every $100,000 you owe to the bank at the begining of every year...

What are they going to say if people can get a even better deal just by buying $10 of fuel every day and spread your weekly shopping to split your purchases... The Numbers did not add up from day one...

No, I posted about an INTRODUCTORY offer for new Amex merchant facilities ($400 per year flat fee for all transactions through Amex), which then gets replaced by a 3-4% merchant fee.

If a company like American Express can't add up numbers, what hope is there for the world as we know it?

Re: 10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

Has anyone noticed that all the people stirring up the panic over the capping are people who only JUST joined AFF? I agree with Colin P. Amex would have done the sums and considered this part of their advertising budget. I went into more detail back on page 37 or 38-ish but I think the cost of these points is probably NOTHING compared to the cost of tv commercials or magazine ads which no one pays attention to anyway. Didn't they have an ad running with a Delta Goodrem song a while back? I vaguely remember ONLY because thats the song I used on a slide show photo montage for my friends but I wouldn't have rushed out to get an Amex card because I liked the song.

It would be the height of stupidity to cap the promotion at 40k when most of us will acheive that by the end of Sept....so where would that leave them during the lucrative Christmas and Boxing Day shopping periods if people no longer have an incentive to walk out of shops that don't take Amex.

I haven't bought ITunes since Feb this year but I will see where it posts from this time.

I have a headache and my eyes are bleary. Time to find a chemist and an optomotrist who take Amex!

I think the key factor in the numbers not adding up is that all their calculations were based on only the people who received a postcard registering. Clearly AMEX have no idea of the power of the Internet as a communication medium.
