I think that this is something for this thread EXCEPT AMEX are going to cap this offer to 40,000 points .

I am pretty sure that most people can do 40 transactions in three months - I did 135 which is why I think if they are going to cap it it should be based on your previous 3 months of spending.

To encourage people to do more transactions particularly ones where they pay a surcharge they wouldn't be liable for if they used a another form of payment is simply rewarding AMEX for designing a poorly thought out promotion.

Please call AMEX on 1300 307 493 to confirm this cap and let them know you aren't happy about this but please don't be rude to the customer service staff they didn't make the decision.

I am also disappointed that this Luisa from AMEX who previously posted via the ADMIN hasn't updated her message with this new information - yet another sign of incompetence by this organisation.

As i said in my post ring AMEX on 1300 307 493 to confirm this cap. I think its important that people don't make decisions that could cost them money through surcharges etc when all it takes is telephone call to confirm this.

Interesting post by a new user.

You don't work for AMEX do you???

I am certainly doing reasonable "non-abuse" spending, but there is no way I am going to go out of my way to get capped!!!!

    Happy dreaming

Well, I think they will put some sort of limit to make sure they dont give more points than the possible benefit they could get out of it or any legal limitation between them and Qantas or other Rewad providers. More important poits will be limited so they dont upset other QFF poits providers... something like this going on for 4 month will for sure kill all other promotions and I dont think that every other Bank, Lender, Car Rental can match an unlimited point give away.

Happy dreaming, But dont go too crazy... you may endup spending more money in fuel than the points you will make... Best tactic is to shop as normal and try to add shops to you Amx ecepted list. I do that all the time promo or not promo, the problem is that the chinese take away will not take Amex no mater how many points they offer me LOL

I am not sure we have to confirm anything at the moment...

Firstly, the points are still posting... and we can check daily during the week...

Furthermore, The terms and conditions of the offer are quite clear, "There is no limit to the Bonus Points you can earn each month"

The website American Express is still fully operational, being displayed on the main website... and the terms and conditions are the same as always... no limits...

Of course, I wouldn't recommend anyone rush to make purchases for the sake of the bonus points (i.e. buying expensive items they don't need) - but by changing our lifestyles a small amount... i.e. refuse to shop at the liquor shop that doesn't take AMEX in favour of one that does... and to use the card always instead of cash, no matter how small, is the best way to maximise the earning of these points.

Whilst this is likely to cost AMEX more than they thought... I doubt they will start capping.... the ACCC will get hundreds if not thousands of complaints...

It is simply a bad wording of the T&C's... it is AMEX's fault entirely... They have to live with it.

(I'm a lazy bugger) Can someone tell me the page # where 40k was discussed? Thanks.

I'm not sure if calling AMEX would help, unless you have their VP's direct line. Personally if the 40k cap is enforced then I'm calling Office of Fair Trading directly. Will allow 8-10 weeks for the bonus points to be credited as listed out in the T&C.

Re: 10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

Just thought to bounce off some ideas on how to increase the number of AMEX transactions (not necessarily spending) in a non-abusing manner. Essentially, what are the everyday low-cost spending that you'd usually pay with cash but could pay with AMEX?

So far I think buying songs from iTunes is a good one. Tipping using AMEX instead of cash is another good idea.
I believe (based on previous Amex statements) iTunes is billed from Singapore, therefore making it ineligible.

I spoke to an AMEX CSR on the phone this morning when registering for this promotion, with 5000 point for 5 transactions card in hand, and once all my charge and credit cards were signed up, I asked about if there was a limit or cap on points eaned, he stated no there wasnt.

I dont know if this has anything to do with type of card (Platinum Charge & Gold Credit card), but I asked again and I was put on hold whilst he must have checked with another staff member and came back, confirming what he stated previously. None the less I will hang on to the card if this changes.

Mind you this was all done prior to reading this thread.

This is NOT an official AMEX forum, so there is no expectation for any feedback from AMEX

I confirmed not long ago YES there is a 40,000 point cap, the rep tried to explain that due to some people abusing the program they had to bring in the cap, blah blah blah. I said a min spend per transaction would be better along with past 6 months speding/transcation history

She said there would be letters in the mail this week!

AMEX - You have stuffed up big time, I have several seperate membership reward accounts so I can still make good use of this program

I have spoken to a rep who confirmed the 40,000 point capping. I said all the literature I have and print outs from the website clearly state no limit.

She said they reserve the right to change conditions at any time blah blah blah and there will be a letter in the mail this week.

While they do reserve the right to change conditions, there is also a reasonable timelimit on when they can do this!

I won't be taking this one lying down, AMEX stuffed up and they are not going to get away with trying to cover their tracks at the last minute
