Just got this email for 10,000 bonus miles offer. Fairly restrictive in terms of fare class.
Looking at the terms & conditions it seems that it is open to everyone and not just restricted to North American residents.Book your trip now and fly between January 1, 2009 and March 31, 2009 and you can earn 10,000 AAdvantage bonus miles. To qualify, purchase a ticket in First Class, Business Class, or select Economy Class fares* for round-trip travel on American Airlines to or from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Central or South America connecting to a oneworld airline.
It doesn't mention Australia or Oceania, but it does include a picture of the Opera House in the email.Terms and Conditions:
AAdvantage bonus mile offer is valid on American Airlines marketed and operated nonstop flights for round-trip travel between the U.S. and Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Central or South America, plus one additional oneworld airline, January 1, 2009, through March 31, 2009. Offer applies only to AAdvantage members who purchase and fly on eligible published fare tickets booked in F, J, A, D, I, R, Y, B or H for the portion of the trip on American Airlines. To qualify, the reservation must be booked between November 24, 2008, and March 31, 2009. Flights operated by our codeshare partners are not eligible for this promotion. Bonus may be earned a maximum of one time. Bonus miles do not count toward elite status qualification. Registration prior to travel is required.

From the fine print:So you have to fly a round trip which includes travel to and/or from the USA on AA metal on AA flight numbers connecting with a flight on another oneworld carrier.AAdvantage bonus mile offer is valid on American Airlines marketed and operated nonstop flights for round-trip travel between the U.S. and Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Central or South America, plus one additional oneworld airline
There are no AA operated flights between the USA and Australia.
The following routings would certainly qualify:I can't discern whether routings like the following Qualify:
- LAX-(AA)NRT-(QF)SYD-(QF)NRT-(AA)LAX
- SYD-(QF)NRT-(AA)LAX-(AA)NRT-(QF)-SYD
- SYD-(QF)NRT-(AA)LAX-(QF)-SYD
- LAX-(AA)NRT-(QF)SYD-(QF)LAX

AA does offer fares out of Australia, you fly on JAL up to NRT where you connect to AA metal.
I have seen those combination fares (QF/AA JL/AA) before. My point in my original post was that while Sydney is pictured, Australia/Oceania is not named in the wording of the email.
Thanks for the link futaris, I had meant to include it but forgot.
I don't see what Oceania isn't named has got to do with anything. Wouldn't the offline AA fare offered in conjunction with JAL qualify for the promo as it contains AA marketed and operated flights to/from Asia? It doesn't say that the connecting OW flight has to be within the same region.
Obviously Oceania isn't named as they don't fly here with their own metal.

So long as the AA fare is in F, J, A, D, I, R, Y, B or H for the portion of the trip on American Airlines (per the terms and conditions). The AA/JL advertised discounted fares are usually in S class on the AA segments. This promo is really for premium fares and not discounted holiday fares.
but I see no reason that an AA round trip on AA metal and coded between NRT and USA ports, with a tag-on QF or JL flight to/from Australia would not be eligible - providing its in the right fare class.
