Re: SIN and HKG OW Lounges

The Terrace? Did you mean the Pier?

Ignoring the proximity to gate issue - on a hot day I prefer the Pier to the Wing as the open air wing gets roasting. On a more temperate day I love the leather lounges in the Wing and then walking along the balcony looking down on the little people.

I agree. And I find The Pier to be quieter than The Wing due to The Pier being more isolated below the departures level while The Wing is a mezzanine level at the Check-In level.

So its a trade-off between quiet/cool vs open feel. So I just use the one closest to the departure gate.

Technically its not a one world benefit to be able to access ANY OW lounge when on a J ticket, just a lounge! I have been refused entry to the wing a few years ago on this basis and it looks like CX have not changed their entry requirements as posted on another thread a few weeks ago:
Cathay Pacific - At The Airport : Lounges

CX are consistant across all their lounges with this as far as the listing goes, I would be curious to hear back on what really happens on the day! Now what happened to the world of whiskeys bar that used to be in the wing, sigh, those were the days!

That's odd as they seemed to me like the most consistent followers of OW lounge access rules, unless things have changed in recent times ... That said I've never been denied using the interline lounge access even without the supposedly requisite status so I guess I've tended to take it for granted.

My experience with interline lounge access with OW is far, far better than that of *A - this is even with the *A publicly accessed website clearly defining the rules, and trying to get in with *G! For eg Air NZ at MEL likes using the 'capacity control' excuse; others like NH/SQ at PVG and UA at IAD simply feign ignorance.

Um I mixed that up as well, I actually preferred downstairs at the Pier

Just remember you were a little person once, and could end up back that way again.

I had a QF F boarding pass last month and I felt that the lounge "gate keeper" at The Wing looked at it a little longer than usual. She let me in though. I had a look at that link markis10 and I didn't meet any of CX's criteria at the time:
The Wing - First Class Lounge (Airside)

Admittance
  1. First Class Passengers
(Passengers on either Cathay Pacific or Dragonair flights)
  2. Diamond Card members
  3. oneworld Emerald members
I was in F, but on QF; I do not have a Diamond Card; and, at the time, I was a SG/oneworld Sapphire. I am glad CX don't follow their published rules too closely!

I knew that would get a comment. IMO could end should be replaced with WILL end up

One thing people need to understand about me is that every time I fly I look around at the benefits I get and am stunned at how lucky I am to be in this position. But in the paraphrased words of Jerry Seinfeld "I choose not to fly whY"

I wasn't judging you, because I make the same choices. The little people make their choices as well. I have chosen to pay the increase to F on my next *one4. You only live once, and you can't take it with you. Only think is, I wish the Concorde was still flying.
