Re: QC Membership + Status Question
You will get a Silver card, bag tags, lots of propaganda and a complimentary Qantas Club single use pass.
Basically keep that card if travelling overseas or with other airlines in OneWorld. For all intents and purposes your Qantas Club card overides the Silver card when flying Qantas or British Airways.
It is also handy to use when flying American Airlines for lounge access as per the Qantas Club rules.
The Silver card can be used with other OneWorld airlines for priority check-in (where offered to OneWorld Ruby cardholders.). It should also be used for checking into other OneWorld airlines.

Thanks for your help Mal.
I'm only 22 so hopefully the Lifetime Membership will be a good investment for a PS flyer.
I did a similar thing when a few years ago (30 now) and have got good value. (Given up until maybe this year when i may make gold i have only ever been bronze/silver)
Too many discount economy flights to make gold !
You will get a new silver card but its an QFF card and not a club card but will still register on there systems as a club member, and no tags for bags, You dont get them as a QP (Qantas Pub) member until you get to gold.
I just got my silver renewal kit (which is basically a letter and a complimentary pass). I'm also already a QP member, so I just wait until I need to get somebody else in when I'm not travelling - or a third person and I don't feel like sneaking them in.
A bit pointless on QF's behalf because I'm just about to get gold - they sent out the silver kit 3 months before my year is up.
I didn't bother for life membership as I have awesome corporate rates - and as I progress in my career I will be flying more and more. I don't expect to lose gold once I get it, at least not in the near future.
As for benifits of silver vs QP - more chance of an upgrade (and don't say it doesn't happen to silver because it happened to me) and the free pass. Plus also the oneworld recognition, but that will only benifit certain people.
I think they should make your QP years line up with your FF years - and then have separate cards for QP bronze and QP silver (and gold and plat will use FF cards). I always wondered what I was supposed to do with the second card - I very rarely carry my FF card. (and you don't really need either, as long as you know your number).
I've actually been wondering today why you are supposed to show both your boarding pass and your card when entering the club- when your boarding pass already says "Qantas Club xxxx" on the service details. It's a bit pointless showing your card, since it wouldn't print on your boarding pass if your membership isn't up to date. It's such a pain when you're in a rush and carrying stuff to be going through your wallet.
Sometimes they ask to see the card, but usually they just scan the boarding pass (SYD,MEL,SIN,NRT i have visited most recently).
I guess maybe i shouldn't have paid QP but whats done is done, and it was lifetime anyway so regardless of status i will still get access.
And i still think i have had good value over the years

Scan the boarding pass? not once have they scanned mine - I didn't even think they had scanners.
If you are entering another airlines club I can understand - but travelling on QF and in the QP, I don't see the point.

Re: QC Membership + Status Question
for domestic (Australian) lounges, most of the time the staffers really don't care. Just flash the card (or boarding pass with your status on it) and you should be right. You might get stopped and have them scan the card to ensure you are flying that day, but shouldn't be a drama.
International lounges are different. Every person entering has their BP scanned. This is mainly for chargeback reasons when elites from other airlines enter.

Ah, makes sense. Darwin and Adelaide clubs must operate as a domestic club even though they serve both (only int clubs I've been to).
What about your one guest travelling with you? How does that work?
