How do you join the American Airlines loyalty programme ,which as I understand it,gives you a better deal in utilising your frequent flyer points
at the same time as being able to access QF aircraft on selected routes?

You can earn/redeem mileage on all QF flights subject to availability.

    And welcome to AFF.

    Hi Gapsted, Welcome to AFF.

AAdvantage does offer a much better rewards program than QF depending on your circumstances. Earning on QF is valid for all flights except those booked into N & Q catagories, both of which are Red-E-Deals. QF's base Red-E-Deal on domestic services "O" does earn points with AA.

Unfortunately, unlike QF there is no easy way to transfer credit card points into the program without spinning them through SPG. It is also harder to earn and maintain their top tier status, EXP.

Redemptions are more favourable- 20,000 points anywhere is Australia in whY and 30,000 in J.

For more info, take a look at the AA section on AFF and see if that helps. You may even be in a position to steal some AA candy which will boost the amount of points you earn when flying.

Merry Christmas and again, Welcome to AFF.

    Cheers,
    littl_flier

That is debated and debatable depending fares purchased - harder for people who fly J/F.

This and the next post may give a clue -
For status, Qantas rate First class travel at 6 x the rate for discount WHY, AAdvantage rate it at between 1½ and 3 times.

    Hmmm....

I am able to achieve and maintain QF Platinum for under A$8000/year, if purely seeking status then I could probably do it for around A$3000/year, and I would hazard a guess that to achieve Executive Platinum would require at least double that amount of money. .

I wonder if there would be many people maxing out at least 2 DONEs a year with their own time and money to achieve Executive Platinum. Horses for courses....

I have looked at the alternatives and do have an AA account for flights i can't or is not good value to credit to QF but for me i have decided that QF is a better option to maintain my status (not to mention better for upgrades for me flying more QF flights).

As with Evan, I currently put all my travel trhough QF, however next year, I will problably start to put my Int flights through *A, probably singapore airlines, but their enhancements may cause me to change this.
